Bigger or better scavenger hunt

The scavenger party was a big success! Had 4 teams of 7-8 girls ages 12-13. The 'bigger or better' theme was great. Each team kept each item obtained and in the end all the teams voted for the winning team. The winners received $10 each and everyone else could take home any of the collected items they so desired. They worked up their appetites and enjoyed the taco bar. Fun was had by all! Thanks again.

Treasure hunt kit is awesome

Hi Nikki, I must admit that I am not computer savvy and rely mostly on my 16 year old son to get me out of most jams I find myself in :) I was able to access the treasure hunt and Easter bonus hunt (which was awesome by the way) As for the hunt, my family is big on these type of events and I have been doing some variety for years.

Your kit was awesome, it saved me countless hours on the planning end and everyone really had fun. We do this event each Easter for my husband's family. There are 4 brothers and we divide them into teams for the hunt. This was by far the most organized and stress free event. We did find that at the end only having one team retrieve the treasure map was a problem as two teams solved the puzzle simultaneously.

This is a great service and I truly am grateful that I found your web site.

p.s. the egg challenge was by far the most entertaining.....

Thanks to my new party planning best friend

Dear Nikki, I can't tell you what a life saver you are. My Halloween invitations were all sent; advertising a Treasure Hunt and I became ill. I didn't know how I was ever going to pull it off, but 2 days before the party I logged in and within 1 hour I had edited the clues you provided to fit our surroundings. I then emailed them to my office; printed, cut and separated. Trust me...now that I know how wonderful your made to order ''hunts' are; we will be having them at every party. The kids and adults had a blast.

Please keep me informed of anything new, especially for adult parties. Thanks again to my new party planning best friend!

Treasure hunt party was a great hit

Dear Nikki,

Just wanted to let you know we used your treasure hunt at a party yesterday and it was a big hit. There were twenty ten year olds and we put them in five teams which was great. It all went well and it really was enjoyed. Your pack was great and I was happy with the product and would do it again.

Treasure hunt all ready to go

I downloaded everything yesterday and now I just have to hide all the clues in the backyard now. It's an outside treasure hunt for a 14 year old's princess party. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm thinking of adding some scavenger hunt elements to the hunt. Like finding something before solving the next riddle. A few of those riddles are going to be brain stumpers!

I'm thinking the game may take upwards of 2 hours. I did 19 clues! :)

Company summer picnic treasure hunt

Hi Nikki,

I am the one handling our treasure hunt. It's a company picnic

We are in Guam (US Territory, an island in the Pacific) - it's hot and sometimes rainy. Our setting for the party is at a beach/picnic area outdoors. Plenty of grassy areas, plenty of water, but very little sand - mostly big rocks instead.

August 5th

this is the summer company picnic

about 250 guests - mostly adults but also some children

Our theme is a treasure hunt - I'm having some trouble with this one, as I would like a slogan or title for our event. I like the pirate idea too, but I don't think it's appropriate to NAME our event after 'pirates' or 'raiders' or 'plunderers' etc. as it is the company's image at stake

We have already begun planning the games and playing areas for our treasure hunt. since we have so many people, I think we may plan a simulated trial-run with a few of us prior to the event, just to make sure we've planned it well. I'll let you know if we have any questions.

Thanks!

Sweet 16 pirate party

Hi, Nikki.

It's nice of you to take an interest!! I think I have the basics figured out.

The party is for my daughter's sweet 16 to be held Aug 11. We are having it in our backyard. We have a pool so we are decorating "piratey" and kind of luau too, but the enphasis is definitely on the pirate. I'm not quite sure about how many will be here, but most likely 50-60, with maybe 35-40 participating in the team challenges and treasure hunt. The hunt will take place primarily in the wooded area behind our house (it is perfect...there are many beautiful trails that my husband has put in and there is a great creek that runs the whole length of the woods) as well as throughout the neighborhood...there are a couple of cul-de-sacs with little "islands" in the middle that are perfect for some of the challenges, and the layout is safe for the kids to go off througout the development.

I am going to buy fabric in 6 different colors and cut it into strips, giving each team member a piece to tie on their heads or waists. I have ordered 6 "Pirate captain" hats so that each team can choose a captain.

I like the names that you have in your game plan, but I am trying to incorporate some "Hawaian" themed team names and "ports". For example, I think I will change "Pirate Beach" to "Pineapple Beach". I am using the 15 beach item challenge, the coconut roll, the stepping stones, the walk the plank, the four coins, and one of my own...They have to join hands around this particular tree out in the woods and sing the chorus of "It's a Small World" 3 times in their best Pirate Voice...and one of the team members must record it either on a camcorder provided or on a cell phone

That will be the main hunt...ending with the clue leading to a wishing well located in an old garden behind the kids clubhouse. In the wishing well will be 4 treasure maps and 4 shovels. The clue is...Enter the garden of old to find the last clue. Make a wish, take a map and a tool to help you. (Not too original, but thanks for the help...!!) The map will lead directly to an area that will have 4 treasure trunks buried. In the trunks will be plastic gold coins for the team members to divide up.

The party will also have music and dancing...there is a DJ throughout the day and night. And lots of food. And swimming. Some of the kids (girls and cousins) will be staying over, sleeping out in the clubhouse and in tents. We will also be having an outdoor movie late at night. (Pirates of the Carribean of course.) And that's pretty much it.

SO....thanks...I LOVE your input. And thank you for your game pack. It really was a Godsend to get me started.

Candy Wheeler, New York, USA

Pirate treasure hunt ideas for Quilter's group

Hi Nikki,

Your planner is great! On Thursday of this week is the annual picnic for my Quilt Guild. I had been in charge of our picnic for 4 out of the last 6 years and this year, nothing was said about it so I really didn't think about it. When the Guild asked me what I was going to do for the picnic this year, I was kinda on the spot and didn't want to say that I wasn't doing anything, so on a whim I said "we are going to have a pirate theme this year with a treasure hunt", not having one clue how to pull this off. That was in early June.

I started searching for anything that could help me with this. We have a range of ages from mid 20's to late 60's and wanted something to accomodate all. I came up with the idea to make up invitations using scrapbooking paper with a map printed on it and rolled it up and put it in an empty glass bottle with a cork. (they went over well!). On the invitation, I put that costumes were optional, and I have a prize for the best dressed. A few have told me they will be in costume. I found wooden treasure chests that I stained and I'm using little ones for the favors and a big one is going to have the prize in it. I found a pattern to make sails to fit on a picnic table in one of my children's party books, so I made up one of those to put on the food table. So I had somethings started, but had no clue on how to do an actual treasure hunt.

I searched the book stores in my area, and found nothing. I even asked the clerks if they had any idea if there was a book out there that could help me with this. Aparently there are several on scavenger hunts, but nothing for a treasure hunt. I was getting pretty desperate, so I googled it. Your site came up on the third attempt and when I found it, I thought that I hit the jackpot!. I was not wrong. I have read the entire book and have started to make my plans. I will let you know how things go after Thursday.

Sincerely,

Johanna Ramsden, Pennsylvania, USA

Annual scout camp Halloween treasure hunt

Yes Nikki,

Our party, better known as our annual cub scout fall campout will be held at Saddlers Creek State Park, located in Anderson, SC........

The campout kicks off on Oct. 13th thru the 15th. That being a Friday the 13th, a Halloween theme just seem to fit. Maybe call it 'Spooks on the Run' or something to that effect.

These are our young scouts, range in age 6 to 10, elementary school children. But it a family campout, so everyone is involved. The weather is usually quite nice that time of the year and we could easily have close to 400 attendees. So now is the time to get it all together as we will began promoting this event next month.

I have downloaded the Halloween planner, but have not printed it out. Looked at it briefly just to see what was in there. Looking good. Biggest thing was doing the treasure hunt this past spring and getting a feel of things. Should be ready in October.

16th Birthday scavenger hunt

Hi Nikki

We are having a 16th birthday party for my step son . We are having Adults and Teens but only the teens are participating in the scavenger hunt ....

We are breaking the teens into three teams with Captains..... Joe our son will be the first captain who will draw names for the other capts. Then each team captain will draw ..(I believe 6 other team members. Each teen will get a T-shirt which says "Joe 16 Hunt 07. Each Team Capt will be given a back pack which contains the tools to execute the hunt... ie : rules, lists, camera, containers, and bottled water.

I love some of your ideas and they are fun I will list what I have so far (some yours)

1) a 39 cent stamp

2) a can of Fresca or Tab

3) a picture of a past president not President Bush

4) a tablespoon of Cayenne pepper

5) a florescent golf ball

6) a Bellevue score card ( this our golf club it is over one street )

7)Something that makes you smell good

8) Something that tastes sour.... not candy

9) Something that makes you itchy

10) A blue marble

11) A coupon for Laundry detergent

12) 3 ice cubes not melted

13) 16 pennies

I am still coming up with the items I think I will stop at 16 we want to the kids to be out for about an hour or so .... so we can get the cookout going.....

First prize is a $100.00 gift cert to the 99 Restaurant Second Prize is a $50.00 gift certificate and runners up will get massive squirt guns to get the winners.

All the kids are really close so the winning team captain will organize that his/her team will go to dinner with the certificate I want to the items to be easy/creative/ yet challenging so that it is not over in a snap.

Thank you if you have any other ideas ... I like the abstract concepts ... that is when you have fun reviewing the collection they have hunted!

thank you

Treasure hunt at family reunion

Dear Nikki,

The treasure hunt is for the family reunion in Charleston, SC. There will be a mixed group of people ranging in ages from infants to 90s. I was thinking about playing the said game on Friday afternoon in the motel area with six groups and each group consisting of six members. The areas that I was considering are the hospitality room, pool area, hallway and the other three areas I don't know where it will be. May be the lobby, and a guest room, etc. In the lobby I will post the last clue (map) behind the brochures. The treasure will be located somewhere out side of the hotel.

Thanks,

Sweet sixteen scavenger hunt

Hi Nikki,

Thanks for the great book! I have downloaded (I believe) all the products. I am very excited to plan this party. It is my daughter's 16th birthday and she and her sister came up with this idea of a scavenger hunt party. I googled 'scavenger hunt' and found your site. I thought this is a good idea to get some help. We love to have parties and have had many years of fun themes and such! My daughter's birthday will be Easter Sunday, so we will celebrate with family that day. We will have her Scavenger Hunt birthday with friends before Easter so I need to get cracking on it. They want to be in teams and be driven around town to find things (drivers will be adults) There are about 20 children so we'll have 5 teams of 4 (I think). I love the idea of taking pictures of the scavenger hunt items and with digital cameras it works great.

Also we will celebrate on Easter with family which involves about 40 people (adults & children) so I used your Instant Hunt games and have already created two hunts for around my house and yard. One hunt for older children and one hunt for the younger crowd. That instant hunt was Awesome to use and so easy!!!!

Those are my details so far. Thanks so much for your terrific website!

Girl scout groups have a great treasure hunt

Hi Nikki,

I have a Girl Scout troop consisting of Daisy, Brownie, Juniors, and Cadettes. For the Juniors & Cadettes (10-14 years old) we did a pirate treasure hunt. We meet in a cafeteria at the school so at Pirate Beach I put the treasure under a bunch of fake leaves and had pirate skeletons sitting on and around the treasure box so they couldn't see it. They just thought it was one of the props. I hid the bandannas and pirate eye patches in smaller treasure boxes around the island. I had a lot of compliments that they enjoyed themselves and would like to do it again.

For the Daisy which are kindergarteners I made a Princess theme treasure hunt. Snow White had to find the poison apple, In Cinderella's ballroom we played hot potato with Cinderella's shoe, Under the Sea Adventure we had to find a crown, wand, ring, necklace, and bracelet. At Jasmine's Royal Palace we sifted through the sand to find gems, And in Sleeping Beauty's palace we did a diamond drop: from the start line to a finish line about 10 feet away. Each player lined up at the start line. The first person in each group is given two toothpicks. Each player has one bowl filled with 5 ice cubes (royal diamonds) which they had to carry across the finish line. And finaly at Belle's Magic Kingdom they colored a picture of Cinderella. I used a Princess box with all the above characters on it and had a big princess doll sitting on top of it. This age group also enjoyed playing.

I would now like to organize a big treasure hunt for all the Girl Scout troups and have them bring a friend. Hopefully this will get more girls to register.

Thanks,

Donna Huffman, Pennsylvania, USA

Memorial day picnic with treasure hunt

Hey Nikki,

Thanks for your emails. I purchased and downloaded your Treasure Hunt Party Game Planner Sunday night and got right to work. You see, I needed a great Treasure Hunt for our Memorial Day church picnic and I only had one night and a morning to get it all done! Your material was a great help and made it both fun and substantive. Everyone seemed to have a great time.

Let me share one quick highlight: my son had a kid's "spy" safe with a changeable number-pad combination. This worked great for hiding the map in. Type in the wrong number and the thing alarms and flashes lights--and of course won't open! It was perfect. What was a blast at our Treasure Hunt was one team put all their clues together and raced to unlock the map. But they kept getting the combination wrong, so a second team ended up getting it. We really had a blast! Thanks so much!

Michael De Leon, pastor

Lighthouse Baptist Church

P.S. for others using your ideas, I was able to make it work with only me as a helper. I used a lot of puzzle type games which was easier for one person--me--to check off then watching people do stuff.

Mystery Island Family Reunion

I have read through the planner and know this is going to be lots of fun. We are having a family reunion July 27, 28, 29, 2007 and I am planning this treasure hunt. I am so glad I found you and the treasure hunt that is all put together for me. The theme of our reunion is mystery island, it is located on a lake and we have never been there as a family before. I have been there twice now to plan /set up the reunion. There will be about 100 people of all ages. There is a beach area and dock and woodsy area on about 5 acres of land where we will have a treasure hunt. I feel this is going to be a perfect setting for a treasure hunt. I am so excited that I got this great tool to make everything so much easier.

Thank you

ATV treasure hunt

Nikki,

I was able to get several good ideas for my treasure hunt. I'm putting together a birthday party for my son and two nieces on the last weekend of January, (the 27th & 28th). My son turns 16 on the 20th, one niece turns 18 on the 23rd, and another niece turns 17 on the 26th. This party will consist mostly of teenagers, and their parents with a total group of about 35-40 people. My son and both nieces wanted to invite all their friends who have ATV's, and play games that could involve ATV's. We have a wooded area that consists of about 320 acres, and most attendees will be staying and camping on Saturday night. The treasure hunt seemed like a good idea.

Since most everyone participating will be riding an ATV, I wanted to limit the number of teams to only 3 or 4, with responsible adults leading each group. I need to emphasize that this is not a race because I don't want anyone riding too fast and risk anyone getting injured. Also, only about 1/2 of those attending are familiar with our land. Some of those attending has never even been there before.

At this time, I'm thinking I will probably use GPS coordinates to direct each team from one location to the other. On our property, we have a small pond, we have 4 access gates (chain link), an old cabin with an old outhouse, and several deer hunting stands that would all make for good hiding places. By the way, our party is in East Texas.

Treasure hunt in the nude

Hi Nikki, You have a great product. We just might be your first customers to conduct our treasure hunt in the nude. Our events calendar had a kids' treasure hunt scheduled for Saturday afternoon. I used some of your ideas to design the hunt, but I am saving the full version for next season when we will have better attendance in the warm weather months. Treasure hunt for first graders

Hello Nikki,

Yes we just had our treasure hunt this weekend for 12 boys age 7 (1st graders). they were divided into 4 teams (red, green, blue and white bandanas which they wore on their heads and doubled as blindfolds when needed ). it was a huge success. I appreciate the information you sent to us, it helped guide us to create our own treasure hunt.

We had 5 stations numbered (not using the cities, kids this age can't read well enough) with challenges; 1) a small obstacle course they had to do blindfolded 2) a top of a xerox box which we made a paper maze in which they had to blow a jawbreaker with a straw to homebase 3) a board that they had to attach 4 puzzle pieces with screws and bolts (holes were predrilled for large lag bolts) and 4) apple dunking (which the apples were too large so all they really did was get wet. #5 was the final area where they dug the treasures up. Each team was given a list of stations in the order they were supposed to go, so all they had to do was find #1, then #2, #3, etc. it was a shotgun start and they all went to different stations, no kids were at the same station at the same time but we would see each team coming and going as our team arrived and left...

At the successful conclusion of each station, they got 1/4 of a paper treasure map puzzle which told them all to go to #5. when they got to #5 (they all arrived about the same time) there were 4 clues on a fence each by color and they told them to walk 5 steps to the left or 10 fenceposts away etc where they had to dig. My husband and i had pre-buried about 1 foot into the ground 4 treasure boxes i found at hobby lobby ($4 each) spraypainted gold and filled with 3 cans of silly string, pirate paper money and coins)

I gave them hand shovels to dig up the treasures and after they did so they had a silly string battle. they loved it. We also had a treasure chest pinata ready in a nearby tree and they banged on that. we had chicken nuggets and tater tots and cake and ice cream and then they all left! phew.

Here is my advice. for this age group you have to remember they are just learning to read. clues and challenges were age appropriate and each team had an ADULT leader to help them understand the challenge if there was a problem and find the challenge on our property (we spread them out over 2 acres). We also had teenagers/adults at each challenge to adminster the challenge and hand out the treasure map puzzles. All adults wore name tags.

What you sent was certainly adjustable for any age or intelligence level. I made the treasure map puzzles, numbers for the stations and maps on a powerpoint program but i could have drawn them as well. You need to follow your schedule and it will be a hit. Thank you it was worth the money and i did have several people ask me the process.

I have attached the powerpoint stuff you can use it or disregard it. I packed up my treasure map table cloth, extra paper plates, napkins, cups and cake topper and am bringing it to the resale shop with a little instructions to reuse if they want to have a treasure chest party for their child.

thank you very much

Treasure hunt organizer gets so many compliments

Hi,

I used your treasure hunt for my best friend's 40th birthday party. I did not know most of the people that came; so, I was a little nervous about pulling the whole thing off. I purchased your delightfully easy-to-implement treasure hunt only about ten days before the party.

We all had so much fun! The guests were laughing constantly and couldn't wait to reach the actual treasure. There were groups of her friends from all different backgrounds--many of whom who seemed reluctant to mix with the others. The treasure hunt was so wonderful that new friendships were formed, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses were exchanged, and my husband and I are enjoying a reputation for being the best party givers ever.

We received so many compliments, you just would be amazed. My friend for whom the party was given was at her office the next day; and, she said the people that had elected not to come were very disappointed when they heard how much fun everyone else had. One young lady upon leaving said to me that she would like to be invited to the next party I have. I had to laugh as I had never met her prior to my friend's party.

It has been nearly a month; and, we are still the talk of the town so to speak. We live in one of those areas where everyone knows everyone else's business whether they know you or not. I imagine you should be receiving a lot of hits from the folks in Salinas, California so they too can give the greatest party ever.

Not only did your program delight every single last party guest; but, it was easy for me to arrange as well. You have a remarkable product that will serve well for years as it is true quality. A rare find today! Thank you so very much.

Sincerely

Cynthia Bryn Smith, California USA

Thirty teenagers kept busy in treasure hunt

Thank you for the planning kit. The treasure hunt was a success. We named the stations Cannibal Island, where they had to eat flesh bottom feet with Rat Scat and whisker sauce (sushi with soy sauce) and Baby Rat eyeballs for dessert (Boba gelatin balls), Mexico Mathematico, where they completed a series of problems, Tour De France, Where they completed a bicycle obstacle course, Kansas City, where as a group they raced to bite the corn off the husk and fill their group cup with corn for the hungry crows, St.Francis Hospital, where they completed a "name the human bones" drawing and each took a turn on the game operation to remove the bones, Figi Island, where one person from the group needed to retrieve fresh water balloons ( water balloons) and bring them back to camp!

They all had a good time. We had about thirty teenagers, both boys and girls, so it was a great activity to bring them all together. Thanks!

After reading your book, my mind is reeling with ideas

My treasure hunt is taking place in California. It is my daughter's 13th birthday party with a pirate theme. She loves pirates of the Caribbean. The guests are aged 12-13

My mind is reeling with ideas! We have a swimming pool,

so one activity for sure will be to put a note to the birthday girl in a plastic bottle weighted down so it will float straight up and down. They will have to 'fish' out the correct bottle using the skimmer net and give it to my daughter to read. Either that or the treasure map will be one of the bottles and they have to fish through bottles until they find the right one. I'll give you an outline of what we did with it later.

Treasure Hunt is easy ready to go package

The treasure hunt went very well, thanks! I was in a big rush, since my daughter decided last minute she'd like to have a birthday party, but we had it yesterday for a group of older teen girls. I've done several treasure hunts before--some of my own devising--but yours was a nice ready-to-go package, which is what I needed. Definitely worth the money. I especially liked your suggestions to have a variety of challenges that would speak to all the teammates various strengths. We live on 5 acres and also have various buildings that can be part of a hunt, so ours lasted about 1 1/2 hours! The girls kept very busy!

Anyway, thanks for making a good product.
