Company picnic and treasure hunt on Angel Island

Hi Nikki,

I work for Wells Fargo and am planning our company picnic (approx 80 adults) that will take place on Angel Island (in the middle of the San Francisco Bay). We are scheduled to be on the island from 10:30A to 3:20P and I am looking for a fun group event.

A treasure hunt sounds like a fun idea however I have never planned one before. Gonna give it a go with your treasure hunt party game planner.

Sweet 16 scavenger hunt at the mall - and hooray for the GAP manager!

Nikki,

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you. Yes, we had our scavenger hunt. It was for my daughters' Sweet 16 and she had invited 10 friends.

We had been looking around and trying to think of something fun to do. I came across several websites about scavenger hunts and she agreed to letting me plan one. The hard part was I had less than one week by the time I got your book online. But I had some basic ideas and used your book to help out.

It was very fun. I took them to the mall with a list of 16 stores they had to find via an envelope with a 'pictionary' type clue on it. They were divided up into 3 groups, so I had 16 envelopes of clues, all in the same order for each group. I started each group out at a different spot on the list, so they wouldn't run into each other. At each store, they had to do one of several options: take a picture of themselves doing something, (at the GAP, holding a pair of underwear that my daughter would wear); find/purchase an item (at a bead store, they had to buy a small string of beads for under $3.00 in her favorite color) or contact someone at the store for their task, etc (at the GAP, the manager had them walk out of the store quacking like ducks! She really got into it!!)

I provided them with a list of rules (which we went over beforehand), some money to use for specific tasks, pens and paper to list the stores on and a bag with the clues in it. They were to call me if they got stuck on a clue.

Everything had points, so the first team done, didn't necessarily win.

My daughter was very afraid I would make them do something 'weird' and was fairly anxious about the whole thing. The GAP store manager was a riot and really got into the whole thing. She was so fun and the girls actually really had a lot of fun! It was a cold weekend here, so the mall was VERY crowded on a late Saturday afternoon. I had contacted the stores where they were to take pictures and got oks from all of them. That's how the Gap manager got involved. She couldn't wait to help out.

The crowds at the mall were a problem, in that at one store one group had to wait to pay for their item for 15 minutes, which eventually left them without enough time to get to the last clue. But all in all , it was a huge success! The girls all had a great time and were very excited to participate. Afterwards, we took them all out to a local restaurant to eat and we gave out prizes there. We had used digital cameras, so while they were getting dressed to go to eat, we loaded them to my husbands' laptop and

were able to show them all at dinner. That was really fun and they were all laughing.

So, that's how it all went. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun for the girls. Plus, no one else had done anything like that before, so that was very cool. Score one for MOM! ha

Your book was a big help. I hope to use it again sometime. I'm thinking how fun an adult one would be. Hmmm.....

Treasure hunt in two parts and the final by torchlight

Thanks Nikki,

My daughter has now had her 13th birthday party. It was successful event! We have just over 1000m block or 1/4 acre block and the weather stayed fine for the evening. My daughter and her 15 guests started the treasure hunt half hour after the guests arrived and teams were picked by taking a slip of paper which had the team colours were written down.

The teams comprised of random members, some teams of three, some teams of two. We only had two officials so we modified the game slightly. 45 mins after the game started it was already dark so all challenges were held in the front yard under flood lights. All the girls participated, even the ones who don't normally participate in parties and games. I split the game in two parts. First part, all the clues were answered and the code collected and the winners were declared.

We then stopped for dinner, a tag tail game, bubbles and glow in the dark necklaces kept them busy for another hour or so. Then the second part of the treasure hunt continued. The winning team received their treasure map (tea stained, burnt around the edges, skull and cross bones etc) which led them to a starting point, which then led them to the back garden shed and with torches they found the next map and the key which then led them to the spade and onto the treasure buried in the back yard.

The treasure tin contained lollies, mini chocolate bars and caramels that were all wrapped in gold wrappers. This was the only sweets that the girls had. The theme was 'all for one and one for all' so the contents of the treasure chest was shared out. Everyone had a great time and one girl stated that she was going to have a treasure hunt for her birthday! One girl, notorious for not participating and going home early asked her Mum for a half hour extension. Four of my daughter's friends slept over and we showed 'Pirates of the Caribbean.'

I found and downloaded your treasure hunt game on the Thursday, shopped Friday afternoon and the party was held Saturday afternoon, plus my daughter attends her Art school Saturday Morning and I attend a guitar lesson Saturday afternoon so I only arrived home 15 mins before the first guests arrived. My daughter and her friend swept and decorated the garage, which we tend to keep tidy so we can use it as our party room. I basically pulled this together in three days with minimal help from my overworked husband. After the party my DH and I tidied up and were sitting down for our well deserved decaf coffee by 10.20pm.Thanks again Nikki we all had an excellent time. Cate from downunder

Family camping trip and treasure hunt

I had no problems downloading 'the treasure!' And I'd be glad to share my plans, as well as a final review, after the event. I'm currently printing out the rest of the document (of course, I ran out of paper this week, so it is a staged process!) and starting to plan my hunt, using your ideas and theme to construct this year's treasure hunt event.

Here's the story -- a tale of two families. Rachel and I were neighbors while our children were young (we each had 4 kids). Although our families are mostly grown up now, we are still best of friends, as are our children that were essentially raised together. Once a year, we ALL go on a 4 day tent camping trip together. This has become a gathering of 30 people.

Adults, young adults, teenagers, elementary children, and now a couple of toddlers! Every few years when my kids were young, I'd do neighborhood treasure hunts or scavenger hunts for their birthday parties. Then, for the kids on our annual camping trip I'd do some sort of hunt.

Last year, no hunt. I ran out of ideas. It turned out, the kids were disappointed. So I started searching the web and libraries early this year for ideas to beg, borrow, steal, or buy! And I found you!

* This year, Fr. Hennepin State Park, Isle, MN.

* Every year, we assign a new committee of 2 to decide

* where next years camping trip will be.

* We are Minnesotans, so it is always in MN, WI.

* July 20 - 24. The actual hunt will depend on the weather

* and scouting out the campground locations that I can use.

2 - 62 age range. But, while I debated on whether it would be better to set up separate hunts for elementary, teen, adults -- or maybe build the teams with members of each age group; whatever I do, I need to take the teen's

competitiveness into account. THEY WANT TO WIN!

* This year, I'm going to go with your Pirate theme.

* I appreciate very much that you offered to help with questions.

* But, your ideas that you published will keep me going

* for awhile yet.

* However, if I get a brainstorm wonderful idea,

* I'll let you know.

* Thanks, again!

Treasure hunt with clues

Hi Nikki,

This is a follow up and a half !

I have downloaded the pack but haven't got into it yet, I've already planned a treasure hunt, drawn a map, put 9 out 14 clues together myself. This weekend is kick off time in terms of planning. The kids will be in the 5-8 years age bracket and for me having not done this before, pitching the clues and the directions at a level kids of that age will grasp with minimal adult intervention is the challenge. That's why I took a look on the Net and found your package. So bear with me for now.

The party will be a birthday party for my daughter on 6th August , there'll be 15 guests in the above age group. Party takes place in a rural town Co Kildare, Ireland. No theme.

The participation might vary from 50-60 people at a time. Also, we want to make it a little sporting. But, we need at least 12 good games which might last from 15-20 mins.

You suggest us some good gaming ideas.

Haunted Luau theme for treasure hunt

I used your treasure hunt game for my son's 12th birthday party. We were doing a haunted Luau theme and I used the Hawaiian Islands as the places that they had to visit. It was great. The program to customize the hunt worked great and was very easy to use. I had about 15 kids that were doing the hunt. They had a really good time. I was having a little trouble trying to come up with a treasure but a friend suggested lottery tickets.

The kids went nuts over them. I had three sets of three lottery tickets tied together for the team that figured out the location and dug it up. But I also had single tickets in the box so that everyone got one. It was a great party game for that age group. I was really pleased with the product.

I am planning on using the Halloween games bonus that I got for my son's Halloween party at school. Thanks.

Take off pounds at a treasure hunt

I haven't had time to read the book yet. Was hoping it wasn't an on-line book, but...

We have a TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) group with 50 people. This is held outside on a large lawn. In case of rain, it is held in a large...huge garage. So teams are not a problem.

I'll be in touch when we move on, but won't review until after the weekend.

Thank you for asking.

Treasure hunt delighted every single guest

I used your treasure hunt for my best friend's 40th birthday party. I did not know most of the people that came; so, I was a little nervous about pulling the whole thing off. I purchased your delightfully easy-to-implement treasure hunt only about ten days before the party.

We all had so much fun! The guests were laughing constantly and couldn't wait to reach the actual treasure. There were groups of her friends from all different backgrounds--many of whom who seemed reluctant to mix with the others. The treasure hunt was so wonderful that new friendships were formed, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses were exchanged, and my husband and I are enjoying a reputation for being the best party givers ever.

We received so many compliments, you just would be amazed. My friend for whom the party was given was at her office the next day; and, she said the people that had elected not to come were very disappointed when they heard how much fun everyone else had. One young lady upon leaving said to me that she would like to be invited to the next party I have. I had to laugh as I had never met her prior to my friend's party.

It has been nearly a month; and, we are still the talk of the town so to speak. We live in one of those areas where everyone knows everyone else's business whether they know you or not. I imagine you should be receiving a lot of hits from the folks in Salinas, California so they too can give the greatest party ever.

Not only did your program delight every single last party guest; but, it was easy for me to arrange as well. You have a remarkable product that will serve well for years as it is true quality. A rare find today! Thank you so very much.

Surprised to dig for treasure

We did have fun. There was one adult and one child on each team and it was so cute to see the kids come wrapped as mummies.

One hyperactive child only came with partial shards of toilet paper since he couldn't stop moving. We weren't picky on how much of their body was covered. One little girl never moved and she came perfectly wrapped. I recommend a toilet paper like Scott, since the softer rolls fell apart too easily. I found out my adult niece couldn't spell backwards and she became very frustrated! I think everyone was surprised that it wasn't just a straightforward 'here's the map, find the treasure' and they were very surprised to actually have to DIG for the treasure!

I used a large tin wrapped in a plastic bag, but when the shovel hit, the bag broke and the tin lid got dented, so a little dirt got in, but not much. The trouble was they kept trying to pull it out before totally uncovering it.

Fun putting treasure hunt together

Nikki, just wanted to let you know that my son's birthday party went really well. I had a lot of fun putting the treasure hunt together and the boys enjoyed all the challenges and especially digging up the treasure! All the instructions and the question puzzle were a bit challenging for them even though I modified some of the questions (they were 8 year olds) but they had fun! I used your 'matching items' game to pair up the boys before the treasure hunt started, which worked out well. Thanks for the ideas and putting it all out on 'paper' for me. I will definitely use it for other parties.

Family treasure hunt for July 4th Weekend

Dear Nikki,

I received the treasure hunt planner without a problem. I am planning a treasure hunt for the July 4th weekend. My family along with 7 other families with kids are going camping in upstate NY. We have been doing this for a few years now. The kids range in age from 3-15. Last year I planned treasure hunt for them where one clue led to the next clue and so on until the last clue directed the kids to the treasure. The kids loved it so much that they asked for another treasure hunt this year. This year I wanted to make it a little different. I wanted to have the kids do an activity at each station where they would get a clue so your ideas have really helped.

I have changed a few ideas. I want all the kids to work together and not make teams because I don't want it to become a competition. I know 14 kids is a lot to work together but I thought I would give it a try. For example, instead of mummy wrapping one team member I am having each kid mummy wrap another kids arm so everyone will have to be wrapped to move one to another station. I will let you know how it all works out.

Treasure hunt activities just right for teenagers

The treasure hunt game was great. It still took me a while to put it together; but it would not have happened at all without your program. The girls playing were 12 and 13 years old, so it needed to be sophisticated enough to keep their interest; and it was. I thought the activities might be too easy for them but in fact they said it was just right. It was interesting to see how one activity would stump one team and not another. I had to work with the adult supervisors to prevent them from helping too much, explaining that each team has their own challenge and let them work though it. It took them at least an hour to get through the game and everyone loved it including the adults.

Thanks

Hi Nikki,

When I had my Halloween party all the moms were asking how I put it all together so well considering I work 55 hours a week. I told them that I was searching through the internet and found the neatest little website. I told them I would put the web address in the thank you cards. And if I have ever met a bunch of women who try to out do each others parties it is these women...LOL.. I know they will all love your site and the ease that it provides when planning a party. I loved it and I know they will too. I plan on getting the scavenger hunt game for a neighborhood Christmas party. I know it will be one to remember! Scavenger hunt for youth lock-in

Hi Nikki,

I have been able to get the scavenger hunt downloaded successfully and just briefly looked at, looks good.

My task is to organize a lock-in for youth ( appro. 100 grades7-12) at my church, my theme is mission impossible eluding to the fact that without Christ it is impossible to get into Heaven. I was planning to use some of your ideas to make a week long mission to be accomplished before they could get into the lock-in. This is probably going to be a very elaborate event (I hope I can pull it off) in early April.

Some riddles stumped them!

Hi Nikki,

The instant treasure hunt party for our son turning 9 was a huge hit! Once the boys got warmed up they were running in and out of the house for clues. In order to have everyone feel included we rotated who read the clues. I also emphasized this was a 'team' approach. It worked out really well and it was fun to see which riddles stumped them and which ones they figured out with ease.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It was money very well spent!

Great treasure hunt invitation ideas

My party is scheduled for Saturday, December 3rd. The party will be held at our cabin at White Rock outside of Fayetteville, Arkansas. We have a large outside area around the cabin where I plan to conduct the party...weather willing:-) The party is for my son's 9th birthday and there will be 8 8-9 year olds attending. I am tying the Treasure Hunt into the Survivor's theme of the party...I haven't completely figured it all out yet but am working diligently to make it a huge success. I have decided that the party invitations will be hand delivered to each child...the invitation will be on vellum paper stained and burned, rolled up and enclosed with sand in a corked bottle! I think it will be really cute!

Treasure hunt almost ready to go

Nikki,

I have been working on the Treasure Hunt all week, and I'm finishing the final touches on the map tonight.

I am going to have 18 children ages 5-10 years. We are having the hunt at our farm around a creek. I will set up the stations tomorrow. I am excited about using the mummy challenge. My son wanted to have all physical challenges so I put all the younger children in a group, all the girls in a group and split the boys into two groups. I think there will be less competition within the groups. Sometimes boys tend to get too competitive. I have chosen five other physical challenges including a multilegged race, a musical water glass, an egg race, a water balloon toss, the mummy challenge, and a water race.

I am going to hide a key for each team, which will open the treasure chest with their goody bags in them.

I have enough adults for each station. I think that will help.

The rest of the party includes a hotdog cookout, a hay ride, a hike in a really cool creek with caves, frogs, and lizards, and the treasure hunt, not to mention the cake and icecream and the presents. I hope it doesn't get dark before we're finished.

I used many good ideas from your ebook. I copied the station names onto yellow cardstock and laminated them. We will attach them to posts which are in place already.

Thanks for the great ideas.

Sincerely,

Shelley Grellner, Oklahoma USA

Treasure hunt players shouting dig dig dig to get the treasure

Hi Nikki, my party was in Oakville, Ontario. I had it on April 9th and it was for my daughter's 8th birthday. The age range is 6-8 years old. I had some ideas about the party prior to getting your book, but your treasure hunt book was great to help bring all my ideas together. I modeled the game after yours but I changed a few things to be applicable for us. I didn't have a lot of time to put it together, but it only took a few hours to gather the necessary items and make the game. I loved making up the clues and the treasure map. We authenticated the map by burning it and staining it with tea, and it was very realistic.

The morning of the party I had everything ready to go early and I felt completely relaxed, which is not always the case prior to a party. The party was a resounding success. The kids absolutely loved the game. They had so much fun, and worked really well in teams. I buried the treasure in our front yard, so that was definitely the highlight for the group. They were chanting 'dig, dig, dig' to the team who was digging to get the treasure up. Once it was found, they screamed with joy and excitement at what was in the tin.

Everyone had fun. No one was frustrated or felt they couldn't do the game.

So thank you for all your assistance. I will definitely do another treasure hunt again. In fact my 6 year old asked if she could have the same party next year. It was so much fun for the kids but also for the my husband and myself.

We couldn't wait for the kids to get here so we could play the game.

Thanks again!
