Treasure Hunt is easy ready to go package

The treasure hunt went very well, thanks! I was in a big rush, since my daughter decided last minute she'd like to have a birthday party, but we had it yesterday for a group of older teen girls. I've done several treasure hunts before--some of my own devising--but yours was a nice ready-to-go package, which is what I needed. Definitely worth the money. I especially liked your suggestions to have a variety of challenges that would speak to all the teammates various strengths. We live on 5 acres and also have various buildings that can be part of a hunt, so ours lasted about 1 1/2 hours! The girls kept very busy!

Anyway, thanks for making a good product.

Hi Nikki:

We had a fantastic time. Our Pirate themed treasure hunt party was a 'treasure!' The hunt was superb and the tools that you provided made it easy to customize to our group. The children loved it! I appreciate that you kept checking with us to make sure things were progressing well as we planned the event.

Amazing Race style treasure hunt

Hello,

I am in Oregon and the treasure hunt is a Holiday party on Dec 18th. Our age range is babies to people in their 50's.

I did read through the whole thing and have started to put it together. We will be having it at the Elk's Lodge, indoors nice size room, we have about 55-65 people usually attend. I was trying to make a party Amazing race game and I think this fills in the blanks I needed. I am working on what I will actually call the game. But I will use several of the activities I had come up with already so I don't have to many to figure out still.

Thanks,

Worldwide treasure hunt

Hi Nikki:

Thanks for your e-mail. My 'concept' is to search the world for the treasure chest. Each room in the house will be a different country (with appropriate props and decorations) - China, France, Italy, United States, Africa, Egypt etc. I only have 5 children (girls- sleep over) -no helpers-I thought I would have the girls go from country to country with each girl having a clue that leads them to another piece of the map, then they put their pieces together, complete the map then follow the map to the treasure. Don't know if I can bury it (altho I would love to). I may have the treasure chest in the exercise room (separate little cottage from the house) because they will have to leave the main house to get there - no risk of discovery prior to the completion of the map. That 'place' would be another exotic place - a tropical island. It may make more sense to have all the girls with the same clue running to the next country to find one piece of the map - perhaps each ha ving a different piece in each room is a bit much....

I need to find something to serve as the treasure chest (I've been looking). I am having small duffle bags/tote bags made with each girls name on it. They will be given the bags when they arrive. As they start the hunt they'll carry the bags from place to place-with each discovery of a map piece (and completion of a challenge (forgot to mention the challenge at each place) they will earn a prize - little wrapped gifts that will go into their duffle bags along the way. Then the 'treasure chest' at the end will be filled with goodies for all to go into their individual bags. These and other prizes will make up their goodie bag take aways...I'll hit it hard this coming weekend (the party is next weekend on the 4th).

Any advice will be most appreciated - I love your book and service - terrific and innovative.

Thanks,

Roni Agress, USA

Scavenger hunt in limo

Hello Nikki,

I have read through your scavenger hunt planner and have gotten some good ideas. The party is in Ann Arbor, MI for my daughters 14th birthday this weekend. My husband got a limo to truck 14 girls around. I think I want to go with a photo theme around town. Any thoughts? I'm sure they'll have fun no matter what.

Treasure hunt fiord two parties - Sunday School and medical workers

Hi Nikki,

I have actually purchased the Treasure Hunt game for two parties. The first one involves my Sunday School class (I am one of the leaders, not in the age group of 18 to 30!!!). The class is College Aged Young Single Adults from age 18 to 30. We are planning a retreat weekend and thought this game would be perfect for them. We are always looking for games for that age group.

The second group is for a state convention for pulmonary and vascular medical workers. Their meeting is in April but the lady in charge for this year's event wanted to do a treasure hunt and have me come up with the ideas. When I saw your website it looked perfect.

The first group will probably do their thing outside, the second group will be inside at an Embassy Suites. Any help you can give me will be much appreciated.

The Sunday School group will be themed from the Bible, probably from the Old Testament.

The second group would need something with heart and lung theme.

Thanks for the follow up!!

Some extra ideas for a scavenger hunt.

Hi Nikki! Our party is this Friday. My Daughter is 11 and celebrating with 15 of her 5th grade friends. I planning on incorporating things to hunt for that represent spring, the year of 1996 (the year she was born) and March. I am not very far on my list yet!!

I am very nervous because I don't have a full plan as of yet. Your planner was helpful but still I need to be more creative. Perhaps I am over thinking things too!!

We are planning to split the kids into groups and giving them colored t-shirts saying 'We found a great time... or Searching for Great Time.. And we still have to figure out prizes etc.

I purchased 'Riddle me' but didn't like it nearly as much as I like yours so thank you!!

I also appreciate you helping me figure out what to purchase :)

I will keep you posted,

Lori

----------------------------------

Hi Lori

Just look through all of the many scavenger lists and choose about 15/20 items that appeal to you and work with your theme. For spring - there are several nature hunts so you can choose items from them. Obviously some coins for the year she was born - is there anything else around the neighborhood that is 11 years old?

You could also use the numbers 1996 - e.g. one clothes peg, 9 paper clips, 9 daisies and 6 balloons (or whatever item you choose).

Some fun tasks recorded by camera always go down well. Look at the task based hunts for some ideas.

As for prizes - give each team $11 to purchase an item - you state the theme - fun / pink / biggest / smallest / cutest etc. Winners get their pick of the purchased items. :)

I hope this helps

Best Wishes

Nikki

--------------------------

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. You work like I do and I love that about you. I am going to share your website with everyone!

Hi Nikki,

Treasure hunt as a summer reading project

Vermont, USA - at a small public library in Vernon. The party is to support our Summer Reading program. The theme is - Realms of Reading - and while most of our program will use a medieval theme, I?ve chosen the pirate theme pack as appropriate. All ages will take part - the summer reading is for kids from birth through high school. The hunt will include parents. We want to use a medieval theme

The treasure hunt planner book seems very thorough, which is a huge help to us. We?re a small library with a small staff and don?t have the time to put all the work into that you have done for us! Thanks!!!

Hey Nikki,

I organized the treasure hunt last weekend and it was a great success.

My planning was based out of your Treasure Hunt download and made some little changes here and there to suit our theme. I had 24 people from ages 8-60 and this was played at a large park area.

Great fun...

I owe the success of the game to you. It was very well planned out and in good detail. I am planning to organize another treasure in the near future and I am excited.

I am now addressed as Mr. Treasure Hunt...:) Thanks,

Pirates of the Caribbean at company picnic treasure hunt

Thanks for inquiring. Our company picnic will have a 'Pirates of the Caribbean' theme. A treasure hunt seemed a natural choice. We will have about 100 people, children and adults. One decision is whether to have two different hunts or to put children and adults together on a team. We also have many choices for locations. There is a nature trail through the woods, a ball field, a pond, front yard, and inside the buildings. My guess is we shouldn't spread out too much.

I'll contact you with other questions as I get further along in the planning. Your follow-up is very unexpected and welcome.

Instant treasure hunt one of most successful activities ever done

Nikki -- I adapted the instant treasure hunt for a church building and grounds setting. I had a family night with a dinner, and the after dinner entertainment was the treasure hunt. The parents and kids loved it! It was a BIG hit! After the treasure hunt, I gave my lesson which is that the Bible is full of 'clues' that lead us to the greatest treasure of all -- Jesus. Wish I had some pictures to send, but forgot to bring my camera. I was not sure this would go over well, but the treasure hunt was one of the most successful activities I have ever done with the kids.

Treasure hunt website shared with other parents

Hi Nikki, thank you very much for all the follow-up emails and also for making that customization website available. It's been REALLY EASY to plan this treasure hunt with all your materials and the website.

My son's 7th birthday party was this past Saturday and ran the pirate-themed treasure hunt. The kids ranged in age from 3-8. It was great fun! The kids really enjoyed themselves and the parents seemed to enjoy watching the activities, too.

I followed your basic design, signs, and most of the games. We did the whole treasure hunt on our backyard lawn in a space of about 15 ft x 25 ft.

I really enjoyed planning this and running it, too. Your instructions were great and really easy to follow. I'm looking forward to planning another treasure hunt soon. As I mentioned earlier, all the kids had a great time and the parents really enjoyed watching the treasure hunt. I've already shared your Web site address with several parents. Thanks again,

Now we have been asked to plan a city wide treasure hunt

The treasure hunt was great. Now we have been requested to do a city wide treasure hunt to raise money for a scholarship fund. My children had a ball and so did I (I may have had more fun than them). This will absolutely be an annual event for us.

The original reason for it was because we don't celebrate Halloween and I wanted my children to get some candy and have an opportunity to dress up in a controlled situation. They love the idea. I found a great pirate mask and scared a few of the younger children but my older kids thought it was hilarious.

Thanks for everything and keep the updates coming

Exceptional treasure hunt product saves time and stress

Nikki,

The treasure hunt party this past weekend was a huge success. We had an away sleep-over at our family mountain house and had the treasure hunt on day 2. It went extremely smoothly and the ten girls had a blast! Last week was an insane week and I had little time to prepare, and now that I've done the hunt I feel like I could do it perfectly next time. Your product is exceptional and you truly saved me valuable time and stress!!! I look forward to having another hunt sometime very soon.

Treasure hunting in the snow

Hey Nikki

I did receive the treasure hunt game immediately. Thank you. I have done a quick overview, and have come up with many ideas to adapt it to our needs. Our party is in January. It is our company Christmas Party that we hold up north of Toronto/ Canada @ a Ski Resort. Employees bring their spouses for the weekend. I will have around 38 adults this year. The last couple of years we have had a theme for the weekend. Last year it was a 70's party.

This year the theme is Pirates and Bar Wenches. I thought that a Treasure Hunt on the Friday night would be perfect. Everyone must dress in costume....I was putting the pressure on around Halloween to get them shopping! My husband and I own the Market Research Tabulation firm and have many long term employees. I enjoy making the effort to ensure a great party! I haven't decided yet how much of the resort I will use for the hunt. Our 'Party Suite' is about 600 sq ft 2 levels. But as I am writing I guess there is no reason I can't spread it out more around the resort which is actually 2 buildings (50 rooms)

I would like to bury the treasure in the snow...but other than that it will be too cold to play outside at night! I plan to have 6 crews of 6 pirates each with my husband and I as officers.

The crews will be led by their Pirate Captain...I have already ordered their flags! I have also found pirate trivia/crosswords etc. I was also hoping to have some sort of plank to walk...people will be drinking..should be a challenge! I guess the only thing that jumped out at me that I need to adapt is the idea of the train station schedule...I need something related to the SEA!

Thanks for your email

I will be in touch...Half of the fun is the planning for me!

Review of the treasure hunt party last Saturday

Dear Nikki,

I wanted to give you a review of our party last Saturday. It was a real hit, all the boys had a great time. We had 8 boys ages 11 and 12 over for our twin?s 11th birthday party. We gave instruction to bring their bikes to the party as they were to search within our housing development for clues, the map, and treasure. The invitations were hand delivered on brown paper sacks to look like treasure maps.

We included many of your games; Pea and straw, toilet paper wrap, word puzzle, rope walk, we added a name the landmark game with pictures of US national landmarks as an educational station.

Our map was hidden by our community pool under a bench in a poster tube. It led them to an undeveloped lot that had 3 piles of dirt. There was an actual X taped onto one of the piles of dirt. We spray painted a Styrofoam cooler black and glued a latch for the combination lock to hold.

The boy?s party favors were in the treasure chest which included a flashlight, movie gift card and some candy!

My wife and I did the whole thing with each of us taking one team (4 boys).

I?ve attached a link where you can view the photos we took.

Thanks again for the great kit as it made the process very easy. We had a fun time in planning the whole event. The combination twist is a very clever thing!

Best regards,

St Patrick's day treasure hunt

Nikki,

We are having a St. Patrick's day theme. March 17th, they will be searching for ?the pot of gold?. I have purchased a black pot from Hobby Lobby and filled with candy with hopes of the children sharing (age 9).

I wrapped the candy in the top with gold wrapping paper to resemble gold. We have all the stations taken care of. The teams and stations all fit around St Patrick?s day. I now need to get the clue and the treasure map done. We have a huge back yard fenced and that is where we are planning to have the entire treasure hunt. I was just going to set stations up around the back yard.

My husband has said that he was going to put the treasure map around some bricks in the back yard. Also the pot of gold will be in the shed in the back yard. (my husband has built a shelf over the door and that is where the pot of gold will be! This is the first treasure hunt, and I will be planning another one (Easter) three weeks later for my 11 year old

Pirate treasure hunt for sailors

Nikki,

I appreciate your follow up.

I am thinking of using the treasure hunt in a weekend of events during our Island Packet Sailboat Rendezvous. We are the Island Packet dealer for Florida and the Caribbean and every year we host a rendezvous for all the owners in the area. The weekend includes cocktail party, awards banquet, dinner and dancing, seminars. Etc. This is my first year to be in charge of this event and I am a bit overwhelmed with everything I have to get done.

I am thinking of using the treasure hunt on Saturday when we have a sailboat race, however, not everyone wants to participate in the race. I am using the game to fill some of the time for those who choose not to be in the race. To make things easier for me I am considering doing away with the combination portion of the game. I thought I could make it part of the rules that they cannot put the pieces of the puzzle together to determine the clue until they have collected all six pieces.

I liked the ideas for the tasks/challenges you sent with the game. Since we are a sailboat group, I am trying to come up with ideas centered around pirates or nautical things.

Scavenger hunt for trustees

Thanks for your interest in our scavenger hunt.

We are always looking for fun events on the Green to make people aware that it is there and also to raise some funds for the upkeep of the place.

We love the idea of a scavenger hunt, using nature as our theme. I am reading through all the info you sent and ideas are forming.

I will let you know when we hold the event and how successful it is.

Many thanks

Instant treasure hunt is used time and time again

Hi! Nikki!

I will be using the treasure hunt for a neighborhood party and also the magic trick and party games at our camping reunion at the beach in August. You have saved my brain a lot of study and thinking. Thanks again for your help.

I have used your treasure hunt game twice for children 8 and under. They loved it. The clues made them think and the adults assisting them enjoyed the hunt as well. I'm sorry I don't have pictures but I will use the game again and send you some. It's a wonderful way to surprise a young guest coming to visit. A great icebreaker. Haunted Luau theme for treasure hunt

I used your treasure hunt game for my son's 12th birthday party. We were doing a haunted Luau theme and I used the Hawaiian Islands as the places that they had to visit. It was great. The program to customize the hunt worked great and was very easy to use. I had about 15 kids that were doing the hunt. They had a really good time. I was having a little trouble trying to come up with a treasure but a friend suggested lottery tickets. The kids went nuts over them. I had three sets of three lottery tickets tied together for the team that figured out the location and dug it up. But I also had single tickets in the box so that everyone got one. It was a great party game for that age group. I was really pleased with the product. I am planning on using the Halloween games bonus that I got for my son's Halloween party at school. Thanks.

Scavenger hunt is BEST birthday party ever!

I struggled for weeks on what to do for my daughter's 13th birthday party. It's a tough age. They don't want to be treated like kids and they don't want to do anything that might be considered 'lame'. Thinking back to my college sorority days, I started thinking that a scavenger hunt might be the answer. So, after a thorough Goggle search, I ordered your 'Treasure Hunt Party Game Planner'. To make a long story short, several kids told me afterwards that it was the BEST birthday party they had ever attended...even before their parents told them to say it??!!

With just a few minor modifications, I implemented your Scavenger Photo Challenge. I thought it would be safer and easier than a bunch of 13 year-olds 'borrowing' items. Also, I liked the idea of having a permanent record of the party in the photos.

Clearly, your planner was an excellent resource in preparing for this event.

I'm running your cool treasure hunt game

We are in San Antonio Texas and will be running your cool game outside in our backyard. I received it immediately as an electronic download and that was the way I was hoping to get it rather than waiting for it in the mail. I read it the next day cover to cover like you suggested and already got some ideas for our version.

I was picturing parents up on a step ladder placing a water balloon onto a piece of plastic pipe held upright by their child and the child has to walk slowly keeping the pipe upright until they can tip it and dump the balloon into a bucket and go back for another.

The other task I had pictured was placing a key in a container with a hole only large enough for a child's hand so the parents can't do everything and can later say to the kid 'they couldn't have do it without the child' I've got a week...we'll see

Scavenger hunt hen party

Our scavenger hunt was great. Most enjoyable item was definitely best freebies from Selfridges make-up dept - they came back with bag loads! All opportunities for extra points were definitely taken up and therefore having a digital camera was great as we had the hen with groom and best men of another wedding party, the hen sitting in some ambassador's car, the team doing maypole dancing etc etc.

I was incredibly nervous about the whole thing, but it was a roaring success and turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable day. The only thing I regret is that I couldn't really take part!

Combination code stops shortcutting of treasure hunt game

I appreciate your service.

I had a New Year's Eve treasure hunt with about 50 young adults from church. Good times! It was a success! I tweaked the hunt so that it was 'global', so the teams were traveling to different world countries, and the challenges ranged from a basketball free-throw challenge (Lithuania) to a suduko challenge (Japan) to creating an encouraging note for our missionary friend in Africa (Tanzania).

An interesting thing happened at the end...one of the more enterprising guys figured out where the treasure map was hidden without having all the clue pieces (i.e., his team hadn't completed the last task, but he still figured out the clue). Thank goodness for the combination code...it saved me from having to make up rules on the spot. He couldn't take the map without having the combination code. As it turned out, another team won instead!

We had a good time...thank you for sharing your organizational skills with all of us!

PS: If I get some photos, I'll email them to you

Planning for treasure hunt stations

Nikki

We are in Pacifica, California but I gather you are probably English by the sounds of the stations you suggest. We are both originally British but I have been in the states for 20 years. The party is April 18th so I'll let you know how it goes after.

The only station I have planned so far is Vallemar which used to be a station at the bottom of our road. We are going to ask history trivia about Pacifica... My sons class (9 yr olds) have been studying this in school lately.

The packet was very thorough and easy to read.

Treasure Hunt for Seniors

Hi Nikki, I am excited about putting our 'Treasure Hunt' together. It looks like everything is well planned. Our date is Mar. 23, so I have time to get it all together. It will be done for a group of older people (60 plus in age). The train destination idea will work better for us.

I appreciate the fact that I'll be able to get back in touch with you with my questions as I work on our event.

Thank you.

Disney Tickets are the Treasure

Hi Nikki,

I have just started to go through the manual. I'm not in a hurry. I plan to do the treasure hunt somewhere between now and the end of March.

I'm planning to do the treasure for my two boys because I have 2 tickets for Disneyland and I want to give the tickets to them in a special, fun way.

They don't know anything yet about the Disney trip. I would like to create special memories for the trip and I thought that including a treasure hunt to start with would be a good idea.

I will keep you updated on how it goes, I might have some questions for you though in the near future, I've never put a treasure hunt together before, but I do believe it will be a lot of fun for all of us....

Kind Regards,

Joke De Frenne, Idaho USA

Soccer theme for treasure hunt

Thank you for all of the correspondence! I wanted something different for my daughter's 9th birthday. We will have a big crowd - 24 + adults for the treasure hunt. She is involved in soccer, school, church, neighborhood, etc. so I wanted to include everyone we could. Many thanks for all of your support thus far.

We will be having it at our local community center. So we have access to a large soccer field, playground, basketball and tennis courts. I thought of having the following stations (1) a mummy wrap - wrapping the tallest person in your group; (2) cheerleader stance and hold for 30 seconds, and then I haven't thought much more than that. I want the games to be fun and your suggestions help a lot! There will be a little age different, from 6 - 11 and we drew names for the different groups, so there is a variety in each group. We chose 5 groups - (1) strikers, (2) forwards, (3) mid-fielders, (4) defenders, and (5) goalies. Can you guess what our theme is?

Because of the large crowd we can't make the treasure too extravagant - we're still on a budget.

Many thanks again. Take care,

Annual Scavenger Hunt for Dads and Kids

Thanks for all the emails and help. I am interested in your help and ideas. Our event is an annual event (which if all goes well I would like to make the scavenger hunt an annual part of it).

The name of our event is called 'Livin, Lovin, Luau'. It is a luau for Dads and kids ages 0-6 years. We host it at our local YMCA. We are confined to one large gym. My idea was to have all the dad/kid teams who wanted to participate follow a series of clues that would lead them from one station to another throughout the room. Some of the stations or games that we will have are: Play dough station, Coconut Bowling, Crazy Totem Poles, Fish craft, Infant Island (area for small child and infants to explore), coloring station, Photo station (we always take a picture of each child/ren with their dad to take home), Pin the Tail on the fish, Ring toss, Snack area, Fish Flying, Limbo, Shave your dad, Fishing game, Reading area, Pin the Banana on the tree, Hanging Monkeys.

I am sure I can come up with a great hunt. The last item would be at the area where the dad fills out an evaluation of the event and the child gets a special treat bag of goodies. Thanks

Riddles in instant treasure hunt led to treasure map

Hi Nikki. It was a big hit at my son's 7th Birthday party. It was a pirate themed b-day and I used some of the riddles and I made a treasure map that at each station had gold coins to collect and then ended at a real treasure chest that my son had ask for filled with treasures and gifts for him and his friends....he loved it and they all wanted to play again.....thanks for the help!

Treasure Hunt Loot in 6 Locations

Nikki,

The Treasure Hunt was a smashing success -thanks. We took most of your ideas and changed them a little to go with our group (we still did the 6 stations but made one station food related [they had to make a pirate delicacy from foods that were on the table without labels - crushed up Oreos looked like dirt, etc.]). They also had to name the delicacy, write out the recipe and 1/2 of the team had to take a bite in front of the First Mate!

We also decided to have 6 different treasures (one for each team so the game didn't end when the first team found their treasure). The 6 clues lead all the teams to the same location for the treasure Map but each Treasure Map had a different team's name. So, they had to locate their team's map which lead them to their own treasure. The teams didn't know this so they were quite surprised when they found loot at different locations.

Thanks so much!!

Treasure hunt kids running around like crazy

Hi Nikki,

Thanks for the Treasure Hunt. My son's 8th birthday party was great. All the kids loved the hunt and the last clue was a treasure map that lead to a buried treasure. They all were running around like crazy. My son still talks about it a week later. He wants to do it again next year.

My daughter is having her 16th birthday in November, I was wondering if I would have access to the site to make a treasure hunt for her party?

Thanks

Treasure chest up and in the middle of them all!

Hello Nikki,

It's taken awhile for me to respond, but my daughter reminded me of it today so I thought I should reply before I forgot again.

I had my treasure hunt for my 10 year old daughter?s birthday. It was a bit unorganized but hey I had to work the morning of the party. We had 17 kids over. My husband was uneasy about how we were going to keep them all entertained and having fun for 5 hours.

It was great! I scattered the stations all over the place. Finding the treasure map was the best. My husband hid it in a bird house. It took them like 10 minutes to clue in. They ran around it who knows how many times. The next best thing was the actual location of the treasure chest. Instead of burying it we strung it up in a tree. Of course, no one thought of looking up. It was right in the middle of all the action throughout the whole hunt. We were laughing. It was a blast.

This party took place middle of July. On this past Monday, one of kids mentions to my daughter that that was the most fun at a party. Now the other kids want treasure hunts too. Next year it will be even better since we had the trial run and it went over amazing. Thanks for your help.

Clues in instant treasure hunt are perfectly balanced

Hello Nikki, We had our party yesterday and the treasure hunt was a lot of fun. I thought I made a mistake ordering instant treasure hunt but tailored it to my needs and graphics and the kids and parents were impressed. My nine year olds thought some clues were too easy and others a little confusing but not confusing enough to make you give up. That's a perfect balance in my opinion.

Thank you for the product and I will use again in home treasure hunts since that is what this particular product is tailored for ... the Instant Treasure Hunt was 'very' easy to use and tailor to your personal needs. The children had a great time running around the lake and many stated it was the best birthday party they've attended. I was surprised at the ease of setting up and the excitement it caused for all the children at the party. Thank you very much for your help and creativity. Take care and Thank you!

Kids want to make treasure hunt yearly tradition

Hi Nikki, I found your site during a Google search. I had two days to plan a hunt for my 9 year old son and 6 of his friends, as a last day of school treat.

Your site really helped. I had to make some changes because I only had 7 kids, but it was a great time for all. The hunt and all the challenges took about 2 hours. I had a lot of fun putting it together too. Next time I will take more time planning.

The kids asked if we can do this next year for the last day of school. They want to make it a yearly tradition. Thanks.

School treasure hunt

Hi Nikki, Thank you for your treasure hunt book. We held our treasure hunt a couple of weeks ago and it consisted of 12 groups of 10 year old children, a total of 110 kids. The treasure hunt was a culminating activity of our term's unit 'What is your treasure?' We had 6 stations and made up fun challenges at each stop, the children received a piece of the last puzzle each time they successfully completed a challenge. The teams eventually ended up in the principal's office where they found a spade and a beautifully tea-stained treasure map that directed them to a sand pit on the school property where the treasure was buried. The winning team received the contents of the treasure chest and each participant a love heart with the words 'Where your treasure is, there will be your heart also' Matt 21:6 with a chocolate bar attached to the back. The children absolutely loved the hunt and it was a highlight of the term. Your book was so helpful in setting up the treasure hunt, wh ich was quite complex with so many children involved. We will definitely use all of the tips again when we run the treasure unit next year. Thank you for all of your help and your follow-up emails which ensured the day was a huge success!

Scavenger hunt for bible study group

Hello.

I read your book yesterday. I will being doing the Scavenger Hunt some time in July. I have until then to get it together. I am doing it for an age group of 12-17 both boys and girls. There should be approximately 6 girls and 6 boys. If invite another group it could potentially be more. For two years I had a neighborhood girls ministry. We use to do all kinds of things. That has been over for about 2 years. Recently I had a bible study for 12 year old boys in my home. That's been over for a month or so. Both groups have asked me to have 'something' for them this summer. They miss me, ahhhh. ha ha just kidding - they like being entertained. Anyway, both were bible study type deals in the past. The hunt doesn't have to do with the bible BUT I am sending them a paper with some short scripture fill in the blanks...that will be their ticket to come to the hunt. I'm thinking about having it in our downtown area - we live a small community. We can be at the park and they will have access to the city building, library, post office, tennis courts, river front, businesses, restaurants, etc... They can work for a while - break for lunch - and go again. I think it will be the boys against the girls. I have a lot of ideas running through my head. I'm going to need to go back through your book and write things down this time. I still need to think about what they have to do, why, what the prizes are etc... Lots to do yet.

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Treasure hunt had children running all over the neighborhood

Yes, indeed, our Treasure Hunt was successful and fun.

We had about 10 children ages 4 to 14. The event was a neighborhood block party. I broke them into two teams and started them in different spots of the hunt. They only were to pick up the clue for their color team. I'm attaching the list of clues that I used. It seemed hard enough and yet easy enough so as to not frustrate. Both teams found a clue and a puzzle piece put in a plastic bag at each spot. For the puzzle I glued two pages together--one side was a picture of a pirate and the other was the final clue to where the treasure map was hidden. I then cut that into puzzle pieces that I put with each clue. They were to put the picture puzzle of the pirate together then turn it over to read the clue to the treasure map. The final clue or treasure map I typed in several different fonts and printed it large. There were about 10 pages that I taped together and rolled it into a scroll. It took them to their treasure of candy and necklaces and gold chocolate coins. I will attach the final clue/ treasure map as well.

It certainly entertained the children and had them running all over the neighborhood. Both teams completed the hunt

Nikki,

Thanks for such great ideas. I found your site via Halloween.com and ordered the supplies Halloween morning for a party starting 5:30 that evening.

After setting up the haunted house, cleaning, and preparing the food we had about 35 minutes to plan. Even with such little time to plan the kids went home smiling and telling their parents they had a good time. Subterfuge and excitement at the church treasure hunt!

Nikki,

I decided to bury the treasure right at the edge of the woods on our property.

I've written a clue that will bring the searchers to the map (or final clue). I haven't written the last step of final instruction, but I'm partial to little rhymes rather than maps. I'm sure I'll have no trouble coming up with something once I give it a few minutes.

The party is for the deacon and pastoral staff for my church. I used the idea you gave me to name each station for a city in Paul's journeys.

Here's a fun thing I've added. The guests are aware that there's a church leadership party and they know the date and time, but NOT the location. In fact, they haven't been told who is hosting the party--only that it is a church leadership party.

On the night of the party, they go to a local fountain and bench to meet a man with a black trench coat and hat who will give them a clue that leads them to my house (where the party and hunt will be).

I have reservations from 14 families who have called a cell phone number and left reservations following a message from a voice that isn't mine. People with questions have been directed to the church secretary who is in on the secret and can answer questions or ask me and get back with the guests.

I'm having a ball with it. Thanks, Nikki, for your great ideas and your well-written plan.

Pirate treasure hunt with a ladies Bunco group

Hi there.

I have received the info and printed it off. Thank you. I live in Cary, North Carolina and our neighborhood has a Ladies Bunco group.

Each June, we host a poolside party which has a theme. This year, our theme is Pirates. The ages of the women are from 30 to 50. We have it catered and there is a DJ. My group is also in charge of games. So I thought a treasure hunt would be fun. I am still digesting the material to see how I can make it work for our group. But I may also use this theme for my sons Bday party in July. He will be 6. Wish me luck!

Surprise 35th birthday party scavenger hunt

I had my husband's 35th birthday party yesterday, a surprise scavenger hunt that was unbelievably successful! I had three teams set up, and I made it so that each team had to have my husband with them to complete certain selected tasks (which were typically different for each team). I traveled with my husband as he kept getting cell phone calls to run off and meet this team or that team, so I got to interact with every team pretty extensively during the hunt. I have never seen so many people having such a good time and laughing so much in my entire life. As the organizer, it was the best feeling in the world! One guest wrote an email and said: 'I wanted to tell you what a FABULOUS time we had yesterday. It was, in my humble opinion, the perfect party. Thanks again for everything. You really, truly outdid yourself.'

From your tools, I combined suggestions and sample items from the photo hunt, the hunt at the mall, and the hunt downtown. I think the teams had the most fun (and got the funniest pictures) from these items:

- Convince a downtown bartender to invent an original drink in honor of Jason. Write down the ingredients, and get a picture of Jason sipping the drink with your team.

- Photograph at least 2 members of your team playing Dance Dance Revolution.

- Photograph one team member dipping a bare toe in the canal.

- Photograph at least 3 members of your team posing in front of Victory Field as if they were playing baseball.

- Photograph a member of your team jumping up in the air in the place where creativity blossoms. (This was the Arts Garden. They really got into jumping high for the shot while trying not to distract the people listening to the classical pianist inside!)

I also had a funny misunderstanding. I gave four points if you could get your whole team into pictures in these three situations 1) with a stroller; 2) with a clock that read 2:45; and 3) with a couple who have been together less than 2 years. One team thought you had to have all three at once (my fault), so they nabbed a father with a stroller, ran into a clock store, borrowed a clock and set it for 2:45, had the hands of the clock fall off in the process, bribed the father not to leave, got another clock, set that, and grabbed a young couple. They definitely won the prize for 'best story'!

I am attaching a few pictures. Thanks for making yourself available and providing great tools, which not only gave me good ideas but boosted my confidence in the process. All the adults had so much fun that my son is now demanding a scavenger hunt birthday party for kids on his upcoming birthday.

Best regards

Memorial Day treasure hunt

Hi Nikki,

I am working on putting together this treasure hunt. Our party is a family Memorial Day weekend party. It is held lakeside in New Hampshire, USA.

The party is this Sunday afternoon. The age range of the kids playing the game is 4 years to 14 years old. I am trying to make the tasks at each station easy enough for all to be involved. I like the mummy task and think all the kids will have fun with that one. I plan on burying the treasure chest on our beach; I can't wait for this part the kids should really enjoy it.

Children's Halloween party plans

Upon entering the house each child will get a Halloween printed painter's smock and flashlight.

Children will then go through the haunted house. (in the garage)

Once they come out of the haunted house they will go in to the living room which will be set up as a carnival, there will be different booths with different activities. These will include things such as, the fishing game (easier for the young kids), painting mini pumpkins and little wooden snakes, face painting, draw a pumpkin on a paper plate on your head, penny toss, we are still deciding on the others.

After they play and run around for a while visiting the different booths, getting little candies and toys to fill the pockets of their smocks.

Then it will be time to eat. (while the kids are eating, the Halloween game is being set up)

After they are done eating. The kids are split into their groups and the activity begins. They visit each station completing the activities. Once they have completed the activity they get a clue. (one of the cards from the treasure hunt game) once they have completed each station they will then fallow the clues on the cards they have received. At the end will be a treasure box hidden for each team.

The children then have the option to go though the haunted house a few times before the party ends.

I have never thrown a children's Halloween party, so this will be fun. The ages range from 2 years to around 8 years of age. The majority of the children are between 5 and 8.

Great student treasure party in Japan

Nikki,

This is just a quick note to let you know everything went well. We did make a few changes to your plan like you suggested, but followed most everything else. The kids had a great time and we may try something with the adult students this spring or summer. I?m sending you some photos too.

Halloween treasure hunt in Montana

Hi Nikki,

Yes, thank you, I have received my treasure hunt party planner. I am printing everything out as we speak and I have been just glancing at the material but I am getting really excited for my party! This looks like it's going to be a blast and I can't wait! As you might have guessed my party will be for Halloween and this particular one is going to be for my kids.

Every year we usually do an adults party and a kids party for Halloween. My girls are aged 11, 8, and 6 so there is a little bit of an age gap there so it's hard to come up with things to keep them all busy. This year the party will probably be on October 27th and will consist of girls and boys ranging from 6-13 years of age. I live in Montana so you can't always count on the weather being nice enough to have a party outside. My house is pretty good sized though, so this should work out great and I will definitely let you know how everything turns out. Thanks for everything!

Treasure hunt as culminating activity for term's work

Hi Nikki,

Thank you for your treasure hunt book. We held our treasure hunt a couple of weeks ago and it consisted of 12 groups of 10 year old children, a total of 110 kids. The treasure hunt was a culminating activity of our term's unit 'What is your treasure?'

We had 6 stations and made up fun challenges at each stop, the children received a piece of the last puzzle each time they successfully completed a challenge. The teams eventually ended up in the principal's office where they found a spade and a beautifully tea-stained treasure map that directed them to a sand pit on the school property where the treasure was buried.

The winning team received the contents of the treasure chest and each participant a love heart with the words 'Where your treasure is, there will be your heart also? Matt 21:6 with a chocolate bar attached to the back. The children absolutely loved the hunt and it was a highlight of the term. The book was so helpful in setting up the treasure hunt, which was quite complex with so many children involved. We will definitely use all of the tips again when we run the treasure unit next year.

Thank you for all of your help and your follow-up emails which ensured the day was a huge success!

Kindest regards,

Anna Payne, Queensland Australia

Treasure hunt for residential summer camps

Hello Nikki

Thanks for the email. Very happy with all the ideas & info, very clear.

Will be running 2 residential summer camps in August 2006.

6-11 year olds- 40+ kids

12 - 14 year olds 60+ kids

We are a registered charity here in Ireland, an interdenominational team of Christians working with kids from north & South ( Catholic, Protestant and also ethnic minorities).

We have being doing this since 1986 and this will be my 20th Year!!!!! Where does the time go?

I no longer run the games workshops (as the team have younger & more energetic members than me), But I still organize the EVENTS programme which involve the entire camp all at the same time, i.e. Fancy Dress, Treasure Hunts, Live Drama on stage, Quizzes.

So I'm looking forward to adapting the Treasure hunt ideas you have sent, and I will send you some photos of how we get on.

Many Thanks,

Kindest regards,

Next year the grown ups want to play treasure hunt too

Hi Nikki We finally completed our Treasure Hunt last week! We had so much fun -- thank you for the great kick-start!!! I ordered your Treasure Hunt software package way back in February.

Your software was just what I needed to get started, get me thinking about what I wanted to do -- and it was GREAT fun! Everyone, from kids to adults, had a great time! For me, it was like Christmas, having chosen wonderful presents for all -- and watching everyone Ooooh and Aaaah. My participants had a ball! Of course, now that everyone had so much fun, next year I have to come up with a game for EVERYONE -- the grownups want to play, too!!!

Ah, the challenge! We had great fun!

Photo scavenger hunt for birthday

Hello Nikki

I have read the treasure hunt party games, its interesting but it has more work on it to do, but the scavenger hunt is great I really got good ideas, no regrets on this book for sure.

It will be my daughter birthday, and In our community and culture they don't celebrate bdays and such occasions, but I do for my family, so everyone always waits for my children's bdays.

I will be doing the scavenger photo hunt, that will be different and fun.

Treasure hunt was a blast!

We had our party for my 9 year old daughter's birthday and 17 of her classmates last weekend! What a blast!! Everyone left saying that was the best party they have ever been to! After one team located the treasure map then we all went on the treasure hunt together and they were so excited they could hardly stand it. What fun dragging our old wooden treasure chest up to open it up and share the goodies!! Party bags, chocolate covered gold coins, silver nuggets (Hersheys kisses), necklaces and so much more!

Everything went great...we had one typo on the cake but everyone was having so much fun they didn't even notice. We had a 'Pirate' come visit us also and that was another highlight!

Thanks again for all your help....can't wait to re-arrange the challenges and plan another one for an older group!

Instant treasure hunt is successful and fun

Yes, indeed, our Treasure Hunt was successful and fun. I used your program more for inspiration and ideas rather than exactly following it. We had about 10 children ages 4 to 14. The event was a neighborhood block party. I broke them into two teams and started them in different spots of the hunt. They only were to pick up the clue for their color team. It seemed hard enough and yet easy enough so as to not frustrate.

It certainly entertained the children and had them running all over the neighborhood. Both teams completed the hunt.

Treasure hunt is unique birthday party idea

Hi Nikki,

This will be a birthday party for my 10 year old daughter and about 13 friends on August 13 in Louisville, KY. She really wants to do something unique; unlike anything her friends have experienced. I plan to host the treasure hunt both inside and in the backyard. I like the idea of both coordination and thinking tasks to earn the clues.

Dodging thunderstorms to play treasure hunt

Hi Nikki, our treasure hunt at our spring campout went very well, even though we had to dodge a few thunderstorms. Our scout and parents really enjoyed it. It was different and it was fun. And we are here to have fun. And we do plan to use it again for our fall campout, which is in the planning stage now. That's in October. Made a couple of mistakes on the planning, but learned a lot from this event. Will be keeping in touch soon to see what options we have for our next event.

Prate theme questions - who gets the treasure?

Hi Nikki,

So far we are getting along fine, we have about 30 kids we are inviting.. ages 9-10. We are doing the pirate theme treasure hunt. We were thinking about having a treasure for each team instead of just one. I suspect this could get quite complicated. Any suggestions?

thanks!

---------

Hi Tracy

There are a couple of approaches - one is to have enough treasure for everyone. The first team digs it up, but then gets to share it with everyone.

Second have several boxes of treasure in the same location. The first team finds one, then as the other teams get there, they can dig in the surrounding area.

Third idea is that each team gets a different treasure map and so finds treasure in a different location. That doesn?t need to be too complicated, the first team to solve the final clue gets the first map and so on. You will have to create several maps though!

Best wishes

Nikki

Dad plans scavenger hunt for daughter's party

Hi Nikki,

I received everything and read through it yesterday. It provided me with great ideas. The party I am planning is for my daughters 9th birthday /slumber party. There will be about 8 girls in all and the scavenger hunt/treasure hunt will take place in our neighborhood. Although it is only a couple of weeks away I am still brainstorming and 'creating' the game. We sent out invites yesterday.

My initial plan is to combine a scavenger hunt with a treasure hunt. The teams will have to follow clues to different locations and follow instructions at that location to receive the next clue.

I really like your idea of taking some digital photos along the way to prove some activities were accomplished. Also collecting items/discovering clues along the way. I am not sure what the finale game will look like but I thought the pi?ata idea for the winning team to break open and share with all was great. Somewhere along the way they someone will find a key that when they finish the hunt will unlock a 'treasure' chest which I will actually bury in the woods behind my house.

The eight girls are a lot of fun and adventurous so I think it will be a lot fun for all. I have enlisted my 12 and 14 year old kids to assist and monitor some of the activities.

We live in North Carolina and the party will be on the 15th of June.

Thanks again

Treasure hunt easy to plan

Hi! I just wanted to write...I found the treasure hunt very easy to plan with all of your instructions! The only place I had trouble was when trying to 'age' the map. I could have used a little more instruction on that, rather that just use cold tea!

Great program,

Treasure hunt at an adult pool party

OK, we are in Monticello, IN - a small town about 100 miles north of Indianapolis.

The party is 7/30

It is just a pool party - for adults. (We do things for the kids all the time - this time, it is for the adults).

We are all parents of high schoolers so we are between 45 - 55 I would say.

We have read through the book once and started getting ideas down on paper.

I hope we can pull it off.

Players wanted to do treasure hunt again

Hi Nikki

It was a big hit at my son's 7th Birthday party. It was a pirate themed b-day and I used some of the riddles and I made a treasure map that at each station had gold coins to collect and then ended at a real treasure chest that my son had ask for filled with treasures and gifts for him and his friends....he loved it and they all wanted to play again.....thanks for the help!

Teenage son thinks treasure hunt was awesome!

The treasure hunt party was great; my 16 year old son said it was an awesome party. All the kids came dressed in costume as well as the adults! The hunt took about 1.5 hours to complete. The clues lead to a compass and spade, the compass lead to a treasure map, and the map then lead to the treasure that was buried. When they dug up the chest it was wrapped in chains and locked, and a clue giving them a hint as to where they could find the key, which was hidden in another chest. Being a pirate party, there were several chests for them to look through, but it was in the cake which was shaped like a chest.

We served jerk chicken and shrimp before the hunt, they did the hunt, then ate cake, opened the chest, then played capture the flag in the dark (they had on glow stick necklaces). Everyone had a grand time!! Thanks for your ideas.

Writing own rhyming clues for treasure hunt

Hello,

I recently ordered both the treasure hunt and pirate package from you. The material I received helped because this Treasure hunt is for 25 of my two sons close friends ages 12-14, which means the hunt is in a 3 mile area around our neighborhood and the clues (15 in all) need to be challenging.

I drew out 4 maps ( with burned edges !) giving the familiar landmarks different names, i.e... a church is renamed The Holy Ground, the firehouse is named The House of Hose and Ax, a big clay mound located near a baseball field is called Blood Mt.... The teams will have different colored bandannas and each team member will be giving a title and responsibility during the hunt.( I want this to be a team building experience) so..

The Captain holds and read the map, The Scholar is read all the clues out loud and hold on to them, the Pathfinder holds and uses the compass for the team, the Musician plays and holds an instrument (a plastic

flute) when called upon, the 1st Mate?s job is to make sure all rules are followed and to keep the team together.. etc...

Coming up with the clues was very time consuming because I wanted them to be challenging and to rhyme. (The first clue for one of the teams is 'Proceed SW as swift as you can, till thou is standing on sacred land. Get close to the bronze statue made up of three, then search for a clue below the knees' ) Also, the clues couldn't be the same because each team?s path is different and I had to make sure that the distance traveled was fair (there are hills), as well as having them come from a different direction towards the 'treasure', and I walked each path myself.

The treasure is a real wooden chest, a size of a bread box, filled with play jewels and candy. It will be hidden near a bank of rocks under some foliage.

I'm excited for The Hunt to begin and I hope everything goes as planned!! If this turns out to be a big hit among the kids, I might start my own business planning treasure hunts!

Thanks,

Lisa, Alabama USA

Pirate treasure hunt has fantastic feedback

Hi Nikki,

I just wanted to let you know that we had our Pirate Party this past Saturday and had 160 in attendance. We followed your suggestion of only having the 6 stations, making sure to have enough room and supplies for two teams to be at any given port at one time. Because of the size of our party and the broad range of age groups from 4 to 15, we slightly modified the activities at some of the ports, and the party went splendidly following your schedule. Each color team had an arm or headband in their team color and the team carried a team flag which we affixed to 5-ft sticks (so if anyone had to take a break to go to the bathroom they could easily find their team flag when they came back into the room.)

As each guest arrived we gave them their arm/headband based on the child's age, then sent them to the tattoo parlor for a fake tattoo. We had a professional photographer ready to take individual photos, then fed them a nautical lunch of fish sticks, macaroni and cheese, and tator tots, following by dirt cups (choc pudding with crushed Oreo on top and a gummy worm stuck in) and also pirate cookies. Once everyone finished eating, our team leaders held their flags high in the air so all of the participants could find their team and then the fun began.

We gave out a puzzle piece at each port once the team completed each activity, and once they finished all, they put their puzzle together. The little ones' puzzle gave a simple clue to directly go to find their treasure. The older kids puzzle was the first clue in a series of clues that led to their treasure. We had a different treasure location for each color team.

The feedback on Monday at work was unbelievable. Everyone had a fantastic time. The parents loved it too and still say 'ARRRRR' to me every time they pass me at work. Parents said the kids were thrilled with their treasure bags and most did not want to take off their pirate outfits when they got home. Our next party will be a Halloween party in October. I don't know how we are going to top this one!

Our photographer took over 300 pictures at the party and we get them back tomorrow. I can't wait!

A million thanks!

English speaking treasure hunt in Belgium

Hello Nikki,

We are planning a party in Brussels, Belgium, which is where we are based although we are British and all the children are English speaking.

It is for my daughter's 7th birthday party on 3rd July and we are expecting 14 (maybe 15) children between the ages of 6 1/2 and 7 1/2.

I have read through the book a couple of times and I think it looks good. Some of the games look at bit tricky for them, perhaps the message written backwards is too hard, but I guess we could substitute it for another.

The only real concern I have is that the children's reading skills may not be up to it (they start reading late here - they've only been at it since September), so I thought I could incorporate lots of symbols to help them.

Also, does it matter if the teams are not of equal sizes? I was thinking of 2 teams of 4 members and 2 of 3 members. Will it still work?

I'd be grateful to hear any comments you have.

Best regards,

Philippa Stewart, Belgium

Girls really into the pirate treasure hunt

Nikki,

The pirate treasure hunt was great. The kids had a lot of fun. The only thing I changed is I had the kids put their colored bandannas on first so everyone would know what color they were. I also replaced the gold earrings with tattoos at that station. The winning team really got into digging up the treasure. It was great to see girls really get into the game. Thanks for everything!!

Yard improvement treasure hunt reward

Thanks Nikki,

Yes, I was able to download it and printed it off yesterday. My party is going to be on Sunday, the 3rd of July. I've already started planning the treasure hunt. I live in San Jose, California and my husband and I are throwing a b-b-q for some people that were very involved with the relandscaping of our yard.

It was a huge undertaking and we wanted to give them all a big thank you. So, it'll pretty much be all adults, with the exception of a few little ones (3 and under). We're changing the station names and officers to things that apply to yard work and landscaping. The treasure will be gift certificates for the winners to a local home improvement store.

Please, please, if you have any ideas for me on this theme, let me know . . .

Thanks,

Mona Boomer, California USA
