A lot of chairs to look under for treasure hunt clues

Well Nikki,

I had 6 'stations' and adults at each one, and we had a challenge at each station. (eat a donut that was hanging from a limb by a string, blindfolded and after being spun around, answer at least 80% of some tricky questions, get the cherry out of a cream pie without using your hands, 2 stations were Halloween scary where you just had to be brave enough to get your color-coded flag with the next clue attached and get out of there! And the final station where after solving the clue you knew that the next clue was under a chair, only to find out there were A LOT more then just a few chairs to look under!

The party was a great success (or so the kids & their parents say). Some of the kids are already asking for it to be an annual event. If I do the hunt again I will give myself even more planning time and make the teams smaller (I had 8 in each). I also will add some kind of 'playing field' map to START with, as some of the teams made it too hard by reading more into the clues and looking too far and wide. The Instant hunt was actually the most helpful, with the planning guide filling in some details. I will say your customer service dept has the world's fastest response time.

Thanks,

Sandra Wellman, North Carolina USA

The boys loved the treasure hunt

It is Sunday and we are recuperating from the Halloween Party we hosted for our 10 year old son. The boys loved the treasure hunt! Thank you. I had the boys eat and drink gross looking candy ( a bug, blood and vomit). I also bought 2 paint guns (they are manual and without CO2 or battery) and had them shoot at a skeleton that I painted on a piece of plywood (very easy). I am considering an adult party next year. Thank you.

Picture scavenger hunt

Nikki -

We are planning a Scavenger Hunt Party for a bunch of 8th grade girls (14yrs old). 10-20 girls. The area will be around our neighborhood. We were thinking about having the girls take digital pictures of the things they need to find, or tasks they need to perform. Then setting up slide show of the pictures when they get back, so they can all have a laugh. Thanks.

Scavenger hunt and treasure hunt for teenage birthday

Hi Nikki,

I am planning a party for Washington state, USA. It will be May 13. It's my son's 13th birthday; there will be about 15 guests ages 12 and 13. We aren't planning a theme so far. We had the idea for this kind of party or a scavenger hunt, but we are really busy right now and felt overwhelmed by putting it all together, so finding your party planner was very helpful. We are just starting to put it all together, so I don't have any firm details.

Tentatively, I am planning a couple of scavenger hunt type clues starting at a local playing field and leading to a local park where the main treasure hunt party game will be set up, similar to the party guide. This is because my son really wanted to go all through town, but the treasure hunt in one location seemed a lot more practical, so I'm trying to compromise a bit.

I'll email you if I have any questions as things get more definite.

Thanks, you've taken some pressure off!

Scout camp scavenger hunt

It was last weekend and I got some compliments on it. I used some of your ideas and also incorporated some landmarks of the camp we were in and everyone seemed to have a good time.

We had a Scavenger hunt around our Scout camp. I incorporated finding things with facts about camp so the kids had to visit various areas of camp they may not usually visit. They seemed to have a good time with it. It wasn't the only activity - it was part of a full day of activities. I will be using your ideas for our Cub Scout summer camp as I am Camp Director.

Modified treasure hunt to fit needs

We modified the treasure hunt to fit our needs, and it was a great success.

Treasure hunt is springboard for bigger events

Hey there,

Thanks for the follow up emails on the treasure hunt game. I'm using your party as a 'springboard' for a bigger event... I'm integrating some cool coins, actual treasure, a cool map, and a cryptex, over 3 different birthday parties between August and December for 7-10 year olds (and helped by their parents)

I'll let you know how it all goes! Thanks so much,

Secret agent clues for instant treasure hunt

Hi there,

We did the instant treasure hunt for my daughter's 8th birthday party last week. We pretended that it was training to become a Secret Agent and the children all loved it. We had four teams and used the house and garden with military precision to try and ensure that they were never in the same place at the same time. It was absolutely great fun and we enjoyed organising it nearly as much as the children enjoyed doing it. Overall it was fantastic - it was amazingly simple to create and has made me far more confident to try and undertake such things in the future. I didn't have the imagination to see how we could possibly hold a treasure hunt in our garden but your system gave us loads of ideas - in the end we had 19 clues with varying levels of difficulty for the different age groups and a different background picture for each team!

I was a little unsure of buying from an overseas company but am 100% thrilled with my purchase. We plan to have lots of small treasure hunts around the house throughout the winter and I have raved about your site to all my friends.

Many, many thanks.

Twin boys treasure hunt party

Nikki,

Thanks for your note and yes I've downloaded the documents and briefly reviewed the materials. It looks to be a great outline for what we want to do.

Some specifics on the party:

Where: We live just north of Dallas, Texas

Event: Our twin boys' 11th birthday party - looking at 8 boys in all; 10-11 years in age.

Expectations: A good out-door activity where they might even ride their bikes to different stations to do both puzzles and team building exercises. Plan to make two teams, each lead by one of the birthday boys.

We have a new housing development just south of house that has numerous paved streets but no houses. Thought this a perfect venue for the Hunt - safe from traffic and lots of room to play the games. We might have to have some alternative plans depending on weather.

These are the ideas so far - now need to spend some time reading more details of your book.

Any additional ideas would be welcome.

Regards,

Mark Miserak, Texas USA

How to judge how long a scavenger hunt will take

Nikki

I have read through the planner and have started coming up with ideas.

The party will be held at the Mall of America, Bloomington MN with 6 - 12year olds- 2 teams of 3. I have purchased t-shirts for all of them to wear so that people will know that they are playing a game. I'm having difficulty trying to judge how many things I need to have them play for

two hours. Any ideas on that would be of great help.

I really want to do a variety of things, like riddles, so one that I have come up with is, picture in front of the store that 'every athletic team has' answer Coach. But of course they have to figure it out. I'm doing a lot of hunt and find with pictures but I haven't come up with anything to exciting for them to actually look for. I am using your ideas on perfume card, cellular phone brochure but those are pretty easy. I have a couple of weeks until the party so maybe I can come up with more ideas.

If you have other obscure items to find, let me know because I'd like to challenge them.

Thank you.

--------------------

Hi Gina

It is always difficult to judge just how long things will take, as what you think is hard they will do quickly and what you believe to be easy will stump them for ages!! (Just the way it goes...). So I suggest that you have way too many items on your list and a strict time limit (penalties for being late back). That way they will do as much as they can and no one is expected to do everything.

To challenge them a little, give them some photo challenges or tasks to be completed. You can always give extra point for tasks so that they are encouraged to do them, rather than just stick to the easy stuff.

Best Wishes

Nikki

Postponing town treasure hunt to next year

As our complicated lives roll on ...we have had to postpone the treasure hunt/ birthday party until next year for my daughter. She will be 13 next year. She is thinking of adding boys to the mix so the hunt will be perfect for this party. I'm sure it will be highly successful with all the time I have to plan! (If I don't wait until the last minute.) We live in a very small but attractive and vibrant small town, we're planning on using the down town (about two blocks long) as the environment for the hunt. Our town closes down after 5:30pm, so we should have the place to ourselves. I am an artist and love the latitude of creating this hunt with props, etc. I will stay in touch and if you have any ideas to help stimulate a clever hunt including shop fronts as the theme let me know . Thanks for all your e-mails, I look forward to keeping you posted and asking questions, if I may, as I do a re-creation of the hunt for our town.

Treasure hunt for 11 yr old's party

Hi Nikki

We had a great Treasure Hunt for my daughter?s 11 year old party. We had five teams and I had two other grown-ups helping me. I did the pea challenge, the balancing on a rope, a general knowledge quiz, the backward clues quiz, a memory game and a beat the buzzer game, some they found more challenging than others. The treasure map I hid inside a balloon and mixed it in with lots of other balloons so they had to pop them all to find the map, I had also hidden the bag of balloons.

The treasure map was then found and the hunt for the chest started - it was located up a tree.

They all had great fun, the weather stayed dry and the bags of gold coins for the treasure box were appreciated. What a great idea, I shall certainly keep it for using again.

Best Wishes

Treasure hunt on a farm

Thanks for asking. I am planning a treasure hunt birthday party for my daughter who is turning 11 at the end of this month. We live on a farm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan near but not on Lake Superior. We have several barns, open fields, and trees scattered about. I have read through it once and now am working my way through deliberately to make it work for this setting. We plan to have them start in the late afternoon and finish just as it is getting dark so that it is just a little bit scary for those with an active imagination. I have flashlights to give each child.

Next spring I am going to use the treasure hunt planner again when I host my book club in May when the spring wildflowers are in bloom. I plan to adapt it so that they have to search in the fields and 2-track roads through the woods to find particular species of wildflowers and ferns. This treasure hunt will start about 1 mile from our house and wind it way along the neighborhood with one or two of the stations at neighbors homes along the way. One neighbor has Alaskan Husky sled dogs and another couple are vegans who have a 2 acre organic garden and raise honey bees. I was very excited to find your planner because I have wanted to do this for a long time but have not had the time to work it all out.

I will email you if I have difficulties. Thanks so much for the follow-up. I have attached a couple of pictures to show you where we live.

Scavenger hunt in Mall for 13th birthday party

Hi Nikki -

I have found the e-book extremely helpful in planning my daughter?s 13th birthday party.

Our party is taking place in Phoenix, Arizona, USA

The party is the weekend of October 7, 2006

The special occasion is my daughter's 13th birthday

The age range is 12-14

We are doing a Mall Hunt as a local mall most of the girls are not familiar with to add extra challenge. I have broken it into three different types - things to take photos of, questions to find answers to and items to collect.

We are checking in to a hotel with a water park, going for dinner to Sweet Tomatoes and then to the mall for the HUNT. After our return to the hotel - I have some games planned for the girls to play - then they can do what they do at this age - talk all night. In the morning, we go to the water park following breakfast and then home around 2:00 PM. Everyone gets a party bag with body glitter, lotion, nail file, nail polish, body powder, etc.......

My daughter has chosen to not be a part of the planning so it will be a surprise to her as well as the girls invited. We are ALL excited about it.

I'm sure I will be referring back to the information in your book frequently over the next few years......

Thanks

Student treasure hunt on a Saturday night is much enjoyed.

We had our treasure hunt Sat night. It was great. The students enjoyed it and so did the adults that were working the different stations. I was so relieved to have something already complete and ready to use. It was user friendly. We changed the font and copied it onto brown aged paper and it looked so real. We had middle school age and college age. They all enjoyed it. We had the stations set up among a pirate town and they had to go through the town to complete. We used it to eliminate the teams to two and the two completed a treasure hunt that was extra. Thank you for such a good product.

Treasure hunt worked out so well and was so organized

Hi Nikki,

Our church had our treasure hunt this past weekend. It was a great success and so much fun. This was a family event so all ages were able to participate. We used cities in the Bible (Paul's Journey) as our stations, and challenges that Paul would have faced in these cities, some mental some physical. We have 60 people participate and everyone had so much fun and could not believe how well the treasure hunt worked out and how organized it was. Your planner kits was great I would recommend it to other churches and groups. Thanks for the help.

Treasure hunt birthday gets 100% rsvp

Hello Nikki,

The Treasure Hunt I had for my son's ninth birthday was incredible fun. It was worth paying to download your guide to give me ideas for how to structure the hunt. Instant treasure hunt game perfect for planning party

We have tried out the game for my son's 6th birthday. It was great! We had three teams of three or four kids and one adult each. I had mixed up the clues and starting points and they all lead to the same end point a pirate treasure trunk filled with lots of treasures! The kid's had so much fun. Some of them were readers and had fun reading the clues for the rest of the group. Lots of fun and so much laughter

Once we got the treasure hunt started, it went pretty smoothly. I had teams of one adult and one kid, and I mixed them up, so usually the parent didn't get their own kid. I thought that would help the neighbors get to know other people's kids a little better. Everyone had lots of fun and much laughter was heard. The only thing I regret is not having it all in the same room, because some of the tasks were quite funny! The tasks were a bit of a challenge because I had to configure them so that all can participate (we had ages from 2 to 54). So some tasks were better done by the small kids and some tasks were better done by the adults. All in all, I was very pleased and am looking forward to planning my a treasure hunt for my daughter's birthday party in two weeks, which means I better get cracking now!

Thank you very much, that was $30 well spent.

Clues lead to treasure in buried chest

Hi Nikki,

We had our treasure hunt last Friday. It was a big success. I added some ending clues so the boys would have to walk paces in various directions to find the treasure (actual gold Sacagawea dollars) buried in four separate chests. It took some time and thinking to set up for four groups of three kids and all starting at different locations and ending in four different locations. But it worked wonderfully. It helped me get started and easy to add various twists to it.

I ordered two, different age groups, games. I will be using the younger game in October. It'll be fun. Thanks

Scavenger hunt a company's annual meeting

Hi Nikki -

A word of thanks -- I used your book to plan a scavenger hunt for my company's annual meeting. The meeting had approximately 30 people was held in downtown Reno, NV.

The meeting's participants couldn't stop raving about how much fun they had on the scavenger hunt and getting to know their teammates along the way. We combined a hunt for actual items (such as a spoon and something gold), a hunt for information (the name of the Civic Leader of the Year, the name of the director a play at a local theater) with a photo hunt (pictures of all team members with their toes in the Truckee River, a picture with a certain employee at a casino, a picture with an art object on the sidewalk). For bonus points, we challenged each team to buy and bring back the most exciting item they could with $5. We then had all the meeting participants vote on the most exciting item brought back by the other groups (they couldn't vote for their own team's item) and awarded bonus points for the winning item. A great time was had by all during the Hunt as well as presenting their exciting item to the other groups.

Your book was very helpful in knowing the types of clues to include, items to search for, ground rules and scoring. We wouldn't have had such a successful event without the help your book provided.

Thanks again

Bigger or Better Scavenger Hunt

Nikki,

The party was a big success! Had 4 teams of 7-8 girls ages 12-13. The 'bigger or better' scavenger hunt theme was great. Each team kept each item obtained and in the end all the teams voted for the winning team. The big items obtained were an end table/chair, box spring, computer/scanner/printer, paintings, swimming pool.

It was fun watching the teams coming down the street trying to carry all their items before the deadline. The winners received $10 each and everyone else could take home any of the collected items they so desired. They worked up their appetites and enjoyed the taco bar. Fun was had by all! Thanks again.

Treasure hunt for performing arts camp

Nikki

Thank you for your correspondence. I'm actually doing it for a camp. It's a performing arts camp and the theme for the camp is journeys/adventures, so I thought it would be fun to do an adventure treasure hunt to get the group experiencing an adventure.

I have four groups, and I'm going to have them go to five different locations and at the last location, is where the clue will be so it will be in that last location where're they've done a problem solving/puzzle activity together. You see, we are going to take it a bit further, where they actually have to get their passports/journals stamped by the person at each of these stations. We actually have made them different lands....water land, underground, insect land, rain forest. And they have to get a stamp from the ambassador of that land after they have completed their tasks.

Guests age range is 9yrs - 71

I have enjoyed reading the treasure hunt party game planner, a great inspiration!

Pirate themed treasure hunt planning

Hi Nikki,

I am just getting started on planning the pirate themed treasure hunt for my sons 6th birthday party. I appreciate all your email and hope it goes smoothly. We will be doing it in a park with different color pirate teams depending on how many kids are coming. I am changing the tasks a little bit. Also instead of burying the treasure we are going to have a hanging treasure box pi?ata in a secret location at the end of the hunt. I am in the process of collecting all the materials and need to decide where the treasure will be hiding so I can work on drawing a treasure map. I cant decide if the 6 clues are going to be actual pieces of a puzzle showing the place the map is hiding or 6 cards with riddles so they can solve them and put all clues together to find location of map. This is a lot of fun for me too! This is the activity for the party so I hope it will keep them busy for an entire hour. I will keep you posted!

What a success the Halloween party was

Hi Nikki!

Well, let me tell you what a success our children/adult Halloween party was!!!!

Everyone (and I mean everyone) is still telling me how awesome the treasure hunt was. Last year we tried doing it ourselves, and even though the kids had fun running around our 5 acres, it could in NO WAY compare to this years!! Since we did have some difficulty with pay pal at first, it delayed our creative time, but thanks to your book, we pulled it off!

We're inspired to have an adult treasure hunt party next, it's such a great idea. I did give a couple of my friends your e-mail address...so hopefully you'll hear from them.

Good luck in the future.... Thanks again,

Monet and Kris Storkersen, California USA

Wedding treasure hunt - party of the year!

Hi Nikki,

You have the same name as my daughter, I think it's written somewhere in the cosmic rule book that all Nikki's are fun loving extroverts!

Regarding my Treasure Hunt Party, it's my wedding. It will be at Kensington Metro Park in Michigan, USA, on September 9th of this year (You are more than welcome to attend!!!!).

We started out with a Pirate theme but we then amended it to a Treasure theme. The guests will be the Pirates and they will be looking for the treasure in various times and countries, thus the 'Stations'. We will have an Aladdin Station - with a Genie, a Pyramid Station - with King Tut, a Knights of the Round Table Station - with Guineviere, a Myan/Aztec Station, a Gold Rush Station, a LOST/Survivor Station (?), and then I think we are going to have to make up some more and have at least 9 stations and 9 teams because the wedding list is getting to be a little longer that I had first anticipated. !!!!

I think I'm going to have to put an 18 and over age limit to the actual Treasure Hunt because I want the Grand Prize to be a 'Romantic Night' with a reservation at our local Marriott Hotel, a bottle of wine or champagne, glasses, candles, bubble bath, baby-sitting coupon if needed, and maybe even an inappropriate toy or two!

I only have a short time to pull this whole thing together so your planner is a life-saver! I am re-marrying my ex-husband (father to my children) so the entire wedding theme is of finding something valuable that we lost (on an extremely limited budget) and bring family together.

I also need to come up with some games and activities to keep the younger contingent happy and entertained. One of the things I'm planning is to have them have a contest on building Pirate Ships out of refrigerator boxes, the best ship wins a prize, but then I'm going to have a bunch of black water balloons ready for them (as cannon balls) to have a Pirate Ship War!! The boat that lasts the longest (they are cardboard after all) will win the prize! The only problem with that one is that I think there will be an awful lot of adults that will want to get in on that fun themselves! On that note, I'm thinking of having the adults build pirate ships out of boxes and various items provided as one of their tasks in the treasure hunt. I just have to work out the details on how this is all going to come together.

Like I said, if you have any other ideas you would be willing to share with me on this, I would be forever grateful! I want this to be THE party of the year!! Thank you again!

Sincerely,

Lori Madison, Michigan USA

Please to find treasure hunts on Google

Hello Mrs. Wilson,

I was pleased to find your treasure hunt web-site through Google. I have been creating different games and activities for the past 6 years for my soon to be 11 year old, and my creativity seemed drained this year. When I came across your web-site, I thought of so many ways I could use your book and your ideas. I am going to try it on Dec. 2nd with my son and his friends, but also have three young daughters who would love it in the years to come. I am also a school teacher and thought I could use it with my students at school or even for a fun staff party. The ways to use this are endless, thank you for your hard work.

Scavenger hunt moved inside at the last minute

Nikki, thanks yet again for following up on our scavenger hunt. We did the first one, the one with our 12 year old this past weekend. We live in San Antonio and our plan was to do the neighborhood hunt but the weather got the best of us so we ended up doing the one designed for the house. We used the list that was in the original book and the kids had a great time with it. It was a great success. I'm on the road on business now but still plan on doing the adult scavenger hunt in the near future. I haven't yet decided which one we will do but I'm thinking about the one the involves driving around town.

Safari treasure hunt

Hi Nikki,

I work for the Department of Human Services Child Welfare for the State of Oregon. The party is taking place here in Portland, Oregon at the Zoo. The date of this event is Tuesday, August 8, starting at 8:30 am. and running until 4:00 pm. Because the State of Oregon does not pay it's employees to take 'Party' days off our event is called the Support Staff Off Site Work Shop Day and the Treasure Hunt is one fun activity we are doing to end the session. The age range of everyone participating is from 26-60. The theme is 'Safari Hunt' since it is going to be held in the Zoo. A co-worker and myself went to the Zoo last night and set everything up with the help of their administrative staff. Also, since the state will not allow us to have just and offsite fun day our guest speaker is speaking on communication so each person had to provide me with their favorite animal and they are divided up according to animals. Each person also has to figure out just how there animal c ommunicates so we are using your game and just critiqued it a little. We are all really excited about this event as some of the adults thought this was just a kids game until I explained how the operation was going to work.

I will tell you more about it after the event.

Thank you so much,

Melody Higgins, Oregon USA

I made copies of the pages, cut, color coded, glued and laminated the different stations. I used fold down baskets for the stations... I just taped name to it... Sooo I can pack it all up and use it next year... THANKS it was lots of fun.

Anniversary treasure hunt was huge success

Hey Nikki,

I really want to Thank You for your support during my planning stages of the treasure hunt for The Quickel's 40th Anniversary Party! I am confident this party will be fondly reminisced time and time again, through the years, by the anniversary couple and their guests!! It was a huge success!

The tropical island theme worked really well. The island names were decided upon via 6 fond memories that Mike and Judy carry with them after 40 years of marriage. It really personalized the game! At each island station the teams found their challenge in a bottle (with sand and seashells) to replicate a 'message in a bottle'!

I am sending over a few pictures. Hoping you will enjoy them! Let me know if you have any trouble getting them to come up. Thank you again,

Thanksgiving treasure hunt

Dear Nikki,

The treasure hunt party is the day after Thanksgiving for my son's 13th birthday.

There will probably only be 3-4 other boys and several adult family members (about 8?) We live in a neighborhood where there are large yards and a lot of woods around so I had planned to bury the treasure (yet to be determined) in the woods. I think a map would probably be the best idea but not sure. We live in North Central Florida in Gainesville.

Family house party treasure hunt

Hi Nikki,

I haven't been through the book completely, but I will let you know about my 'party'. Every year, we rent a house with friends for a week at a time with our families. This year we will be in Lake George, NY in the third week of August. There will be seven adults and seven children (from 6 yrs old to 10 years old).

Since I am not familiar with the house or the area, I believe it will be difficult for me to completely plan the event prior to being there. I also had not thought about having players set up at different stations to ensure that the puzzle / code is solved. I had thought that I might have them all be timed to see who could solve it the fastest for the win.

I thought I would have a chest with a combination lock on it that each team would have to try to find the combination at different points on the lake so that it wouldn't be a mystery where the treasure was but a contest to open the treasure the quickest. I will read your book and get back to you within a couple of weeks.

Thanks for your concern and emails!

Gene Shear, New York USA

Hi Nikki,

The party for our son turning 9 was a huge hit! Once the boys got warmed up they were running in and out of the house for clues. In order to have everyone feel included we rotated who read the clues. I also emphasized this was a 'team' approach. It worked out really well and it was fun to see which riddles stumped them and which ones they figured out with ease.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It was money very well spent!

Students use treasure hunt to learn English

Dear Nikki:

Our treasure hunt is in Sapporo, Japan, it's a mini summer 'festival' for my students, aged 5 - 12

As for the challenges: at one station, the students have to ask & answer 30 English questions in their group; at station 2, the students have to 'fish' for English words (reading each word before putting it into their bucket); at station 3, the students will have to look at picture cards and say the words before getting their piece of the puzzle; and at station 4, I will say a word then the students will have to go through some obstacle course in order to get the item; at station 5, the students will have to answer 'What Am I' quizzes in order to get a puzzle piece; and I'm stumped for a station

6 idea (possibly have each group dress up in crazy costumes--which I must supply--and take a group photo)......

Sincerely,

Cheri Hayashi, Japan

Can't wait to plan the treasure hunt

Hi Nikki,

I received the treasure hunt download and I've read it about 4 times now. I'm really excited to plan my daughter's party. I think it will be lots of fun. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found your website. Your planner is so well thought out and helpful....I'm hopeful that I'll be able to put together a fun party.

The party is for my daughter's 6th birthday which is at the end of April. I think I'm going to do a Hawaiian theme and have each station named a different island. I've started to think about challenges to do that can relate to the theme. Good thing I've started early. :)

I'm sure I'll be referencing your site often. I may email you to ask some questions if I get stuck. Thanks so much, I can't wait to plan the treasure hunt. :)

Instant Treasure Hunt is Perfect Game

Children's pastor designs treasure hunt

I did a treasure hunt last year for the kids at my church (I am the children's pastor). Annual adult Halloween costume treasure hunt party

New Jersey, USA the evening of October 21.

I have an annual Adult Halloween Costume Party. For my parties, I like to have a theme as well as a constructed game that all can participate in. This will be my fourth party so far and I plan to have many, many more. One party, I held a Murder Mystery with a theme set back in the 50s so that everyone's costumes were to originate in that period based on the character they portrayed during the mystery. Another, I held a Scavenger Hunt, this party was themed based on the team they were placed in. So their costumes had to correspond with their teams (vampires, ghosts, etc). Both went over really well. So I was trying to find another such game that I could use in order to have at least three games to alternate between over the upcoming years. I certainly don't want any of my guest getting bored doing the same thing over and over again. I was really excited when I came across yours. I had been searching the internet for some ideas and one website had suggested a treasure hunt. I had decided that I would use the idea and was planning to come up with everything on my own like I had done with the scavenger hunt, but when I came across your website while looking for ideas, I was excited to see one that had already been constructed. In this way, I can work off of a party plan that I already know is successful and then change it around to suit my styles or creative ideas.

Ages range from mid 20s to 70s or even early 80s.

My theme is pirates which is why I also purchased the Pirate party planner accessory. I plan to have everyone coming as a Pirate or a Pirate's Wench.

I have had a chance to read through it once. It looks great. I can really work from it and come up with my own unique ideas to add to it. I plan to delve into it further as I get closer to the time. It's just a big load off my mind to know that I have a Party Game and Theme worked out and ready to be planned.

Cub scout camp with treasure hunt activity

Dear Nikki,

I will be running a week long cub scout day camp this summer for about 100 boys ages 7-11, in Toms River, New Jersey. With the camp theme being 'Pirates', I thought your treasure hunt game would make a fun addition to my program. I'm only in the initial planning stages, but I think I am going to incorporate it into the sports program, and have the children accomplish feats of skill at different stations each day in order to receive one of 5 map pieces. On Friday when they receive the final piece of the map they will be able to hunt for their prize. You have some great tasks in your program, most of which I expect to use, adding in some scout skills like specific knots, or fire building, maybe even first aid skills. As I said, I'm just starting but what I've read so far I like!

Take care,

Lisa Lockwood, New Jersey USA

Big party treasure hunt 2 days after the wedding!

Hi Nikki:

I am planning a hunt for my fianc? for his 51st birthday. We are having family (ages6+- 73) and of course his contemporaries. We should total about 40 people. He is a man with everything so when friends were telling us of cache hunts I got inspired and started my search. We live in a 15,000 sq foot home on a mountain top in Huntsville AL so many places to hide things.

His birthday is in July right after our wedding which is two days earlier so obviously lots on my plate.

Party was yesterday and thankfully was a great success. As you would expect weather very unpredictable in Ireland for Nov but we were blessed with a dry if windy day. Have taken some photos and will email them to you this week.

Thanks so much for package which I must say was very thorough. The hardest part for me was trying to contain the children (21 in total) when they arrived at party and explain how the treasure hunt worked. Your website details have been passed to several parents so hopefully you will reap the rewards. Thanks again and photos will follow.

Children's event treasure hunt

I am in charge of planning a children's event to celebrate/kick-off our capital stewardship campaign for our new 'family center.' The adults will attend their own 'event' , but we hope to include them at some point/in some way at our celebration. We'll have children from Kindergarten up to 6th grade. Several years ago I created a carnival for the children's event.

I want to create the whole 'ambiance' and not just have a treasure hunt... The search could end in the new facility.

Treasure hunt set up is little effort

We had a great time with the treasure hunt. Our big birthday party involves my two daughters, now 2 & 6, and their dad. All birthdays within 10 days.

We had about a dozen kids into the treasure hunt - some were a bit too young. Setting up three teams with an adult to lead each one, using the same locations but different clues, it worked out really well. Instead of giving out prizes along the way, we gave them tickets for achieving goals, which were used to get prizes from the treasure chest at the finish. This eliminates the problem of 'I don't like this'.

We even had a 'real' pirate to hand them out - a friend is a member of a Pirates of the Caribbean ship. The remaining booty in the treasure chest was used for goody bags for the young guests. The kids had a great time and were ready for cake afterwards. Between the bounce house, riding a real horse (we have a friend who brought one), and the treasure hunt the kids were totally worn out.

Then it became Dad's party, and the adults had a great time also. We did a treasure hunt for dad, and he was completely confused (we meant to do that) and had a great time.

It was wonderful that I was able to set this up with very little effort. By setting it up so that it doesn't matter if something goes wrong, everyone wins - everyone enjoyed it. I received lots of compliments on how great the party was. I look forward to using this on other occasions, as well as when the kids are just bored.

Thanks for your efforts - which saved me from making them

Don't know how to follow treasure hunt next year.

Well, we had the treasure hunt yesterday. It went really well, the children were so excited and had a fantastic time. I literally buried the treasure and it was lovely watching them dig, surrounded by the other 15 children.

My nephew and niece, my brother and sister, and of course my husband, were all helpers and they enjoyed it as much as the children. Needless to say, I was shattered last night after all the planning, preps and doing, but it was well worth it just to watch the children?s faces.

Many thanks for replying to my email, and for the ebook I purchased, I just don't know what to follow this with next year!

Winter theme for Treasure Hunt

It was so nice to get your email today! I have been stressing over the exact theme of my treasure hunt. I have decided to stick to the Winter Theme but need the names of the teams to not be related to Christmas. I will have four teams in lieu of six - RED, BLUE, YELLOW, & GREEN. I will still have six stations as we will have plenty of time to play. We will be in a three story cottage with four bedrooms and four baths. Main floor has kitchen, living room, dining room, and master bed/bath. Upstairs has two bedrooms and two baths. Downstairs has a family/game room w/ bedroom and bath. I thought since we would not be using the washer & dryer, I would hide the clue in the dryer. Thanks again for checking on me!

Gospel Summer Camp has treasure hunts for kids galore!

Dear Nikki:

I've downloaded the planner and at first glance, it looks like there are lots of ideas that will work for our event after I tailor them to our needs.

Every July our church puts on a camp called, 'Summer Hummer'. Ages 4- 5 stay only half a day, and each day I need to develop a new treasure hunt because the same children repeat the activities every day.

Ages 6 to 14 stay all day and the treasure hunt will be an activity the age groups participate in once. The groups are divided up, such as: ages 6-7 is one group, ages 8-9 is another, etc. All together there will be close to 900 kids! Wow, that takes my breath away. It's really a blast, kids have a ball and so do the counselors. About 300 counselors participate. There's craft people, snack people, story tellers, water slides, zip lines, luge racers, all sorts of field games: soccer, races, etc.

A theme is established by a company called Gospel Lights where we purchase the course. This year's course is 'Sonforce Kids'. During the week we emphasize a different element of the course. Monday is Trust, based on Exodus 1-2:10: Moses: Boy in a basket.

Tuesday is Unite, based on Esther 2-8: Esther: Queen at risk. Wednesday is Train, based on Daniel 1: Daniel: Servant of God. Thursday is Follow, based on Jeremiah 36-39: Jeremiah: Prophet in trouble. Friday is Lead, based on Numbers 13-14:9: Joshua: Spy in a strange land.

The setting is on a space station full of adventure and high drama leading the children to make good decisions based on the day's Bible stories. I'm going to attempt to fashion clues and puzzles with a space theme.

I'll have some help during the treasure hunt itself, but it will be up to me to figure out all the details and logistics of the hunt. It should be great! Thanks for all you do, you've given me some confidence and the beginning of some ideas to pull this off. I'll keep you posted.

Patty Pynch, Washington USA

Already setting up the treasure hunt

Yes, I'm working on setting up the Treasure Hunt. Have read it through twice and am making lists of things to do and items to buy, and understanding how to begin the game and follow through.

The party will be in Fairview Park (a suburb of Cleveland), Ohio, on Saturday, December 9, 2006 in my home.

The special occasion is the 43rd Annual Donahue Family Party- for immediate family only: parent, 5 children, spouses, and grandchildren. There will be a total of 22 people. The age range is 10 years to 70. There are 7 teenagers, 12 adults, 3 children. The theme of the party is 'Memories.' The theme will be played out with old photos, funny family experiences, music and penny candy from the eras of the attendees.

The party consists of cocktails and appetizers, followed by games, dinner, gifts, more games, and sometimes entertainment. Last year we had a juggler/magician. This year I think the Treasure Hunt, Mystery game, and a couple of other games will be enough.

I am still working on clues and challenges. I think I understand how the game works but will email you if I have a problem. Sounds like it will be fun.

Thank you for your email

Treasure buried in the sands

Nikki

I am actually planning this Treasure Hunt for my boss's children and cousins.

They will be doing this in Maui at a hotel I have never been to. My boss wants to have the treasure chest buried outside in the sand.
